Was just thinking about this yesterday and I thought it'd be a good basis for a thread. Music is a very important component to film and can make them incredibly memorable.

What are some films you feel as though have had a lasting impact on your life and changed your taste in music? I would say that my biggest influence came from the American Pie series of films. They feature a lot of Pop Punk songs and bands. I'd never really sat down and listened to that sort of music before. My family and the few friends I had didn't play that sort of music either. I remember just falling in love with the catchiness of the tracks and the speedy vocals. Sum-41 being the biggest one and also Blink-182, especially their song Mutt which in turn got me hooked on their entire Enema of the State album.

These days I associate that genre with summer, friends, growing up and making memories. Songs such as Fatlip and In Too Deep evoke so many emotions.

This is a great post .

For me, it wasn't so much a film but some TV series.

There was a little known football (soccer)drama in the UK called Dream Team that ran late 90s through the early 2000s and they would license a lot of indie music.

Ash, Oasis, Feeder, Massive Attack, Travis, Jamiroquai, Top loader, The Cult just to name a few off the top of my head.

I couldn't get enough of the music so ended up subscribing to a magazine called NME which championed this sort of music and introduced me to indie rock, emo etc.

I can't think of films that really influenced my overall taste a ton but there's been a few that utilized certain songs or artists that made me way bigger fans and I'll always associate the songs with the films. Elliot Smith in Good Will Hunting and The National in Warrior are two that come to mind like that

Kind of ashamed about this because two of them are absolute shit, but I discovered my three favourite teenage years bands in Python (2000), Alone in the Dark (2005) and Saw (2004), respectively Celldweller, Deathstars and Fear Factory.

These got me in Industrial Metal and that genre is still my favourite today. Fear Factory has been my #1 band ever since and I even got the logo tattooed on my back as I previously mentioned.

Nothing to be ashamed of. We are who we are and like who we like and the reasons are the reasons.
