I'm really suprised to see Danielson in Chikara.

Masters of a Thousand Holds vs. Team Uppercut in the finals. I'm calling it now.

I've got The Roughnecks v The Unstable.

Mostly for one reason.. It would free up the likes of Quack, Claudio, Saint, and Danielson to have singles matches against one another in nights 2 and 3.

Wow. Joe Negron's pick for the most overrated wrestler on the planet. I think Danielson is good though lol.

Bit of a coup for CHIKARA?

KOT looks really good this year. I love how Chikara can go all out, and won't have to cut back on fly-in's/big names like everyone else. All of the teams are stacked, and I'm thinking that Team DDT will make it to the finals this year. Roughnecks just look like an awesome stable too.

First match for the KoT has been announced.

Not for nothing, but Aries' new gimmick should be a perfect fit in CHIKARA.

The 3rd opening match has been announced, and its a big one!

Uppercut_Roughnecks.jpg

It will be a great match, but it also means that one of the two favorites will go out in the first round.

Preshow Notes:
Attendance around 525. Entranceway is swank, I’ll attempt to get a picture at intermission. The merch tables are stacked to the high heavens with things from every single person. You want a JOB Squad shirt? Should've been here. The front row fans get the distinct honor of having padded chairs, a true sign of luxury. Brain Damage’s flight is currently delayed. Iceberg will not be here; his replacement will be selected at the appropriate time.

Arik Cannon, Ryan Cruz & Darin Corbin (The F1RST Family) vs. Austin Aries, Ryan Drago & Tony Kozina (Team EPIC WAR):
Aries gets a huge pop, and is playing babyface a bit too much early on. So glad to see F1RST back in CHIKARA! Drago tags himself in before the match starts, some slight dissent early for EPIC WAR. Aries does the Tatanka babyface comeback on Cannon early to a roaring response from all 30 people that actually get the joke. A lot of tension between Drago and Aries, with Drago tagging himself in at more inopportune times. Small aside - Drago has certain body features that match American Balloon, and not in a good way. NSE get it going with a dive from Corbin and an accompanied one from Cruz that was cut off by Aries. The F1RST Family adance in 11:42 following a Cruz Control on Drago. Awesome match, crowd is PUMPED. Great opener.

2. King of Trios 2009 ~ Opening Round: El Generico, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson [Team PWG] vs. Amasis, Ophidian & Escorpion Egipcio [The Osirian Portal]: Team PWG’s music is a best of both worlds compromise as “Olé” rolls right into “Mmmbop”. Awesome. Generico and Amasis lead off, the Funky Pharoh dancing his way out of the chain holds until Generico comes back with some moves of his own. Egipcio and…one of the Young Bucks (I’ll get torn a new one for that) hit some lucha stuff, making way for Ophidian and the other Young Buck (I feel so bad right now!) to trade off lucha of their own after a tag. Really cool stuff, crowd eats it up as they reaaaally lay into each other with some chops. Running through the various combinations of both squads now as the Bucks start to hit some sweet double teams on Amasis. PWG works Amasis over huge early, stringing together some cool stuff on him. Egipcio gets in and hits some killer power stuff, including turning Generico inside out with a clothesline. Portal gets their upper hand working over one of the Bucks until Generico gets the big tag. Quite the little battle between him and Escorpion. Match is starting to go bonkers, dives by the Bucks as the crowd rallies behind Generico. Twin 450’s by the Portal on the Bucks for 2!!! The Portal advance in 16 and change after Ophidian wraps up Generico for the pin. Alan4L’s heart is bleeding. “PLEASE COME BACK!” for the Young Bucks.

Claudio Castagnoli, Dave Taylor & Bryan Danielson (Team Uppercut) vs. Brodie Lee, Eddie Kingston & Grizzly Redwood (The Roughnecks):
No “Final Countdown”, but you have never seen a crowd get more hyped up for a potential showdown than Kingston and Danielson starting off…only for King to tag in Grizzly. small poseoff of physiques between Danielson and Grizz, with King showing off his chiseled body from the corner. Dragon toys around with his former student early, mocking his stature. Dragon toys around with his former student early, mocking his stature by overselling every big man spot from Grizzly in comedic fashion. Kingston comes in against Danielson to a “YOU’RE GONNA GET YOUR FLIPPIN’ HEAD KICKED IN” chant. Kingston gets bounced around in a circle of uppercuts from all three tecnicos. Not the match you would’ve expected to be lighthearted comedy early, but it’s soooo working. Things get a little more serious as Brodie powers Danielson, but Dave Taylor gets in and steps it up with some good chain wrestling, looking like he’s having the time of his life out there. Grizzly managed to take advantage of the concept of lucha tags by somehow getting Uppercut members to armdrag each other in confusion, but they reconcile. Dave Taylor on the top rope?!?! His teammates convince him to come down and just lay Roughnecks out with more uppercuts. The Roughnecks corner Danielson once again and start to work him over. Both teams brawl for a while…BIG SPIN ON GRIZZLY. Crowd is on their feet at 50…and it’s going. This crowd can’t count. It was 79-ish, not 100. Team Uppercut advances in 20:38 after Claudio’s Biggest Spin on Grizzly. INCREDIBLY fun.

Marshe Rockett, Trauma & Willie Richardson (Da Soul Touchaz) vs. Pinkie Sanchez, Greg Excellent & Beef Wellington (Team CZW):
Team CZW has Rickroll’d the crowd with their entrance music. Pinkie and Marshe kick this one off, but then Beef and Willie are tagged in…oh my god, Beef just got on the mic and dropped the first verse of “Ice Ice Baby”. Kind of incredible. Trauma and Greg now…and we are now dancing to “Apache”! Soul Touchaz are down to business now with a Big Willie flying elbow drop and some double teaming with him and M-80. Some triple team stuff from the CZW squad in return with plenty of Pinkie’s patented rear end action. Marshe with a HUUUUGE dive and…OH GOD, BIG WILLIE WITH A BIGGER DIVE OVER THE TOP ON EVERYONE. Beef hits the Ass Punch on Trauma and tries to get him up for E. Coli…but Trauma has none of it and lays him out with a DVD. Pinkie takes out Trauma and we’re hitting finishers galore! Da Soul Touchaz move onto night two in 14:56 when Willie drops Da Bomb on Beef. This was really, really fun stuff all around, maybe the most all around fun match so far.

Gran Akuma, Icarus & Chuck Taylor (Team F.I.S.T.) vs. Necro Butcher, Toby Klein & Brain Damage (Death Match Kings):
F.I.S.T. has perfectly matching purple tights, and Brain Damage is here! After a few seconds of control the Kings take it out into an all out brawl, with Necro KILLING Icarus and Akuma. Icarus went for a tornado DDT on Necro but ol’ Necro put him on his feet and punched dude in the face. AKUMA HAS CHAIRS AND HAS CHALLENGED NECRO TO A PUNCHOUT. Akuma kick in the head is countered by multiple Necro punches and a suplex while Akuma is still in the chair. F.I.S.T. takes over and gets the heat on Necro…chain of submissions by everyone but Brain Damage, who doesn’t know submissions but straight punched Icarus in the face to break it all up. DMK are killing everyone in F.I.S.T. with strikes, but it’s not enough to keep Team F.I.S.T. from advancing in 12 minutes when Chuck lays out Toby with an Awful Waffle of doom. “Death Match Kings!” chant to send out the losing team.

Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen, Lince Dorado & Helios (The Future is Now) vs. Kota Ibushi, KUDO & Michael Nakazawa (Team DDT):
Lince has new boots, do not fear, Internet. He starts it off with Michael, slipping all over until Lince wipes him dry. Ibushi gets in and tears it up…and yeah, words cannot describe DDT love right now. Michael lined up Equinox and Helios together on the mat at one point, poured oil all over them…then ran, did a double stomp on Equinox, then slipped into a senton on Helios. Really fast paced stuff here, hard to keep up. Really fast paced stuff here, hard to keep up. Triple german suplexes by Future is Now. Ibushi moonsault out of nowhere!!!! Michael went for the mist but Equinox chopped his throat, allowing Michael to choke on it. The Future is Now advance when Equinox hits the CHIKARA Special on Michael in 17-ish. Crowd booed the DDT loss big time.

Mike Quackenbush, Jorge “Skayde” Rivera & Johnny Saint (The Masters of a Thousand Holds) vs. Delirious, Hallowicked & Frightmare (Incoherence):
Skayde and Frightmare open it up, a good chance to see what the young rookie is made of. Skayde stretched him out but Frightmare hit a nifty little dive. Hallowicked and Quack square off and go even with one another in some killer stuff, then Saint and Delirious do some chain wrestling. A lot of really neat technical stuff all around, Johnny Saint catches Delirious in some sort of wacky clutch in 16:43, moving the Masters of a Thousand Holds. The Masters of a Thousand Holds vs Team Uppercut tomorrow night!

Vin Gerard, STIGMA & Colin Delaney (The UnStable) vs. Al Snow, D"LO F'N BROWN & Glacier (The Cold Front):
All members of The UnStable have their trendy heel mustaches in tact. Glacier and Al Snow have separate entrances, complete with “WHAT DOES EVERYBODY WAAAAANT?!” music. “HEAD!” and “WELCOME BACK!” chants galore for Snow. Third partner…Al Snow offers Head, Chikarason won’t allow it. Avatar? Snow says no. Shinobi? Snow says to shut up. Leif Cassidy? Al Snow almost takes out Louden, Bryce and Chikarason. The Amazing Red? He’s not here! Green Ant? He’s not here! D’Lo Brown? HE’S HERE! D’LO! Crowd chants “YOU GOT FIRED!” at Colin, D’Lo kinda asks the crowd to hush jokingly. Fun stuff, D’Lo and Snow are having one hell of a time and looking good in the process. UnStable gang up on Al Snow, all three members putting it to him in the biggest way. All three members of the UnStable hit the Lo Down on Snow, with STIGMA doing an especially good head wag. D’Lo hits the Sky High on Colin, but Colin backslides D’Lo in 26 minutes to move the UnStable on to tomorrow night. Lo Down on Colin after the match to send the fans home happy.

FUCK YES!!!!!!

Sounds great. The entrance ways on the large CHIKARA events always seem pretty swish.

Night 2 Results!

Preshow Notes: Fans are slowly packing in, attendance is a little down from last night, maybe around 425-450.

1. Rey de Voladores 4-Way Eliminator Match: Fire Ant vs. Player Dos vs. Matt Jackson vs. Austin Aries: Dos with swank new gear, themed after Zero from Mega Man. Aries has suddenly turned heel in a span of 24 hours. A lot of really neat spots throughout - first elimination comes when Fire Ant takes out Matt Jackson, followed up with Dos eliminating Fire Ant with a frog splash. Crowd is evenly split amongst the last two, with dueling chants in full force. With a dazzling finish in 14:31, Player Dos defeats Austin Aries to advance to the Rey de Voladores final tomorrow afternoon! Hot opener, good match.

2. King of Trios 2009 ~ Quarter Final Match: Arik Cannon, Ryan Cruz & Darin Corbin [The F1RST Family] vs. Gran Akuma, Icarus & Chuck Taylor [Team F.I.S.T.]: Icarus’ face takes more of a beating tonight as Arik Cannon slaps the piss out of him. An awesome legsweep pinning sequence that saw Bryce get a two count nearfall on Chuck Taylor; crowd went wild! After a huge sequence of dives, Chuck Taylor goes for a tope on everyone…only for EVERYBODY to move and Chuck to splat on the concrete. If you couldn’t guess on paper, this match ruled it. Icarus gets the pin on Darin Corbin in 15:03 to move onto the final night!

3. Lethal Wrestling Alliance Offer Match: Pierre Abernathy & Evan Gelistico [The Submission Squad] vs. Davey Vega & Gary the Barn Owl: A team named the Submission Squad should not wear gear that looks like Doink’s. Match sucked. Submission Squad A pinned Davey Vega in like six minutes.

4. King of Trios 2009 ~ Quarter Final Match: Amasis, Ophidian & Escorpion Egipcio [The Osirian Portal] vs. Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen, Lince Dorado & Helios [The Future is Now]: The Portal get a huge face pop from the crowd, with the Future is Now getting quite the mixed reaction. Lince in Helios gear; maybe someone stole them again. Helios and Amasis with a Kid’n'Play spot early. Portal working pseudoface hitting all of their good ol’ spots that play up to the crowd. Escorpion rips at the mask of Lince, and the Portal go after it big time, trying to expose his face. Lince went for a dive to the outside but accidentally shot into the second row of the crowd. In a decision that the fans did not like at all, Helios pins Ophidian in around 17 minutes to advance TFIN into the semi-final round.

Intermission.

5. Rey de Voladores 4-Way Eliminator Match: Nick Jackson vs. Kota Ibushi vs. El Generico vs. Jigsaw: I lost my post for this match while marking out, but easily the hottest match of the weekend. No one will top this. The Arena was on their feet before the first elimination with arguably the best stretch of near falls I’ve ever seen between Ibushi and Generico. Absolutely out of control. Final two were Ibushi and Jig, which Ibushi won with the Golden Star Press. This match will not be topped this weekend, end of story. Everyone must get this DVD immediately for that match. Just…unbelievable.

6. King of Trios 2009 ~ Quarter Final Match: Marshe Rockett, Willie “Da Bomb” Richardson & Trauma [Da Soul Touchaz] vs. Vin Gerard, STIGMA & Colin Delaney [The UnStable]: Colin goes for big moves on Willie early to no avail. A lot of YOUUUU related taunting early from the Soul Touchaz. Really fun match so far, a double Boston crab from Willie on Vin and Colin. Willie and Trauma doubleteam capped off with a middle rope spinebuster from Willie on Vin. CHEATING allows The UnStable to advance as Vin pins Willie with some help from STIGMA.

7. Inter Species Wrestling Offer Match ~ ISW Title Match: Player Uno [c] vs. Twiggy: WELCOME BACK TWIGGY!!!!! Really good match, crowd was hot and split down the middle. A lot of really good back and forth stuff with a fantastic finish that saw Uno get the pin to retain in 8:44. An appreciative “I-S-DUB” chant from the south Philly crowd. Really good, check this one out!

8. King of Trios 2009 ~ Quarter Final Match: Claudio Castagnoli, Dave Taylor & Bryan Danielson [Team Uppercut] vs. Mike Quackenbush, Jorge “Skayde” Rivera & Johnny Saint [The Masters of a Thousand Holds]: Individual chants for everyone in the ring were fun until “BRYCE” and “THIS IS AWESOME” chants before the match started kinda killed it. Still an awesome atmosphere for a huge match. Lots of chain wrestling between Danielson and Saint early, then Quack and Claudio do some of their stuff. Dave Taylor gets the upper hand on Skayde in their short exchange, sending him to the outside. Taylor and Saint mix it up, then Claudio and Saint…all of which Saint goes through in quick fashion. Skayde gets the first big nearfall on Claudio and the crowd is going wild for him. Quack starts to smack Danielson around on the serious, to which Dragon comes back fighting strong for. Intensity rarely seen out of Quack here. Quack going crazy after getting hit in the back repeatedly, locking in the Cattle Mutilation, grounded elbows and CHIKARA Special on Danielson which was broken up by Taylor. Cattle Mutilation on Skayde comes close, but still not enough. Match has turned into absolute mayhem at this point. MIDDLE ROPE RICOLA ON QUACK! 1-2-3! Team Uppercut makes it to the semis in 33:35 in one hell of a match.

Aries vs Kingston tomorrow and Generico vs Arik Cannon have been announced for tonight's show.

Preshow Notes: Various members of the techico roster hand out balloons to the fans, much to the dismay of Smart Mark and their hard cams, along with a Helios and Fire Ant led wave throughout the crowd. Attendance is good, probably around 500 total.

1. King of Trios 2009 ~ Semi-Final Match: Vin Gerard, STIGMA & Colin Delaney [The UnStable] vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Dave Taylor & Bryan Danielson [Team Uppercut]: New gear for The UnStable, black and teal themed. Chicken taunting earlier from Claudio, crowd got behind it big. Tecnicos wrangle up Vin early with some hard hitting uppercuts and Dave Taylor’s nasty cravate. Colin taunts Claudio with a European Uppercut, only to get hit by a barrage of them from all three Uppercut members. UnStable finally starts to get the upper hand on Danielson, working over his knee in a big way. Claudio gets in on the tag from the nearly immobilized Danielson, hitting a 20 spin Big Spin on STIGMA. Lots of cheating by the UnStable and close calls, including an STF on Danielson that nearly ended the match. Dave Taylor pins Colin Delaney in 15:17 to move Team Uppercut into the finals. Solid opener, crowd loves Team Uppercut’s rise to the finals.

2. King of Trios 2009 ~ Semi-Final Match: Gran Akuma, Icarus & Chuck Taylor [Team F.I.S.T.] vs. Lince Dorado, Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen & Helios [The Future is Now]: Boos for Lince when he steps in. Pretty standard fare stuff early, F.I.S.T. getting the beatdown on Equinox. Helios with the lucha tag and he’s on huge. Him and Lince hit an insane combo of moves, legit insane stuff. Equinox locks the CHIKARA Special on Chuck and it takes three kicks from Akuma to break it. Chuck fouls Helios behind Bryce’s back and then hits the Awful Waffle. Team F.I.S.T. advances to the finals with “THANK YOU F.I.S.T.” chants from the Arena crowd. A very average match up until the home stretch.

3. Arik Cannon vs. El Generico: Generico springboards to grab a balloon from the rafters for a young child, a true babyface to the core. Cannon is slapping the piss out of Generico here, killing him with strikes. Tons of fun back and forth with both guys, strikes really dominating. Cannon puts Generico away in 9:52 with a Glimmering Warlock. Really good little match, both guys really bringing their stuff.

4. 12 Team Elimination Style Tag Gauntlet:
4a. Hallowicked & Frightmare [Incoherence] vs. Ryan Drago & Tony Kozina [Team EPIC WAR]: Frightmare continues to impress with his offense, dude is awesome. Drago seems to have carried over a bit of the rude qualities he had tagging on Friday. Some cool doubleteam offense from Incoherence, including Wicked launchig Frightmare high up to the outside onto Kozina and Drago. Double knee moonsalt by Frightmare for two. Kozina scores the pin on Frightmare following a German supped.

4b. Ryan Drago & Tony Kozina [Team EPIC WAR] vs. Hydra & Tim Donst [Sea Donsters]: Not much to it. Donst taps out Kozina.

4c. Hydra & Tim Donst [Sea Donsters] vs. Ultramantis Black & Crossbones [The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple]: All out war early, Hydra hitting Necro Butcher punch-chop combos on Mantis in the corner. Mantis puts away Hydra quick.

4d. Ultramantis Black & Crossbones [The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple] vs. Beef Wellington & Steve Weiner [Animal House]: What a reaction for Animal House here. Mantis tells Turtle that he is no man to be stepping in the ring, and Turtle tells him that he’s going to show him why he deserves to wrestle in the home town of the world champion Phillies. After some offense from Turtle, the Order rip off the turtle shell and get to work. Beef gets in and saves the day. Beef takes the Friggin’ Sweet Driver and the Order move on.

4e. Ultramantis Black & Crossbones [The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple] vs. Player Uno & Create-a-Wrestler [Saturday Night Slam Masters]: Bones get rolled up quick by CAW. Not much of note.

4f. Player Uno & Create-a-Wrestler [Saturday Night Slam Masters] vs. Mitch Ryder & Pinkie Sanchez: Pinkie gets a huge reaction, which evolves into split chants with him and Uno. Mitch Ryder with some SERIOUSLY indy gear, some hardcore garbage bag stuff that would put Arik Cannon to shame. Pinkie with some high flyin’ to please the crowd. Slam Masters making the comeback in a big way after getting kicked around. With some help from Mitch, Pinkie puts away Uno.

4g. Mitch Ryder & Pinkie Sanchez vs. Marshe Rockett & Willie Richardson [Soul Touchaz]: Marshe and Pinkie rip it up early, Marshe KILLING young boy with chops. Marshe is on absolute fire here, and Willie is flying high, dropping the bomb on Pinkie to advance.

4h. Marshe Rockett & Willie Richardson [Soul Touchaz] vs. Matt & Nick Jackson [Young Bucks]: A straight sprint, Young Bucks tearing the house down. They go on!

4i. Matt & Nick Jackson [Young Bucks] vs. Cheech & Cloudy: …and this is where the Gauntlet gets awesome. Flips and big moves galore between these two, and the crowd’s really loving it. Cloudy gets the win with the prawn hold.

4j. Cheech & Cloudy vs. Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood [The Roughnecks]: An early brawl between both teams sees them tour the outside for a minute. Brodie and Grizz jump all over Cloudy, ripping him apart until Cheech gets the big tag. LARIAT OF DOOM AND BIG BOOT by Brodie to get the win.

4j. Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood [The Roughnecks] vs. Jigsaw & Mike Quackenbush: Jig and Quack are just one point away from a title shot going into this, so they have a lot to lose but are in a pretty good place to be as the last team. Quack holds Grizz up for a crucifix bomb and Brodie goes for the boot; Quack drops to his knees and Grizz takes the boot. A QD2 on Grizz puts the Roughnecks away and gives Quack and Jig their third point.

Intermission.

6. Ophidian, Amasis, KUDO & Michael Nakazawa vs. Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz: This. Will. Rule. “WA” armbands for Worker Ant on the Colony. Amasis and Soldier Ant with some fun comedy spots early. Fire Ant and Ophidian trade all sorts of lucha stuffs until we finally get some Portal vs NSE exchanges. Michael steps in to the crowd’s delight, oiled up like no one else. Michael takes a page from Gamma’s book with oil on Fire Ant, which leads to tons of slippery madness. Stereo diving double knees by KUDO and Ophidian. Michael and Amasis oil up together for some double team goodness as the madness unfolds with multi man team spots all over. Michael creates an unoenetrable circle of oil around the middle of the ring as KUDO drops double knees on Darin Corbin for the victory. Tons of fun.

6. Eddie Kingston vs. Austin Aries: Huge split chants right off the bat, as I’m sure you could expect. Joe Hand stole a section of ceiling by the entranceway as it’s suddenly raining indoors. Aries heeling up huge, taunting Kingston on his lack of cardio…and Eddie kills him with strikes as payback. These two are just killing each other, really good match. Eddie Kingston wins in 9:21 with a Sliding D.

7. Rey de Voladores Finals: Player Dos vs Kota Ibushi: Just an electric atmosphere, everyone on the edge of their seats waiting to see what may be one of the most special matches in a long time. Sequence of narrowly missed Ibushi kicks heats things up early on. Words couldn’t describe how cool this match was at points, both men gave it their all. Ibushi is the 2009 Rey de Voladores, winning in 11 minutes. Incredible.

8. King of Trios 2009 ~ Tournament Finals: Gran Akuma, Icarus & Chuck Taylor [Team F.I.S.T.] vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Dave Taylor & Bryan Danielson [Team Uppercut]: Team Uppercut enters to “The Final Countdown”, which causes an epic reaction from the fans when F.I.S.T. rush the tecnicos at the entrance and rob everyone of their singalong. F.I.S.T. jump on the knee of Danielson that was attacked in the last match, Akuma’s kicks especially doing a number. Chuck taunts Dragon with use of Danielson’s patented elbows. Dave Taylor gets the tag and wipes out the rudos with uppercuts, then lets Claudio run wild before he’s cut off. Sole Food/Yoshi Tonic on Claudio for two. Icarus bounced around with uppercuts. Ricola Bomb on Akuma for a certain three before Icarus pulls Bryce from the ring! Claudio with a HUGE dive on F.I.S.T. Danielson gets his payback on Chuck with 20 huge elbows to the face, and locks in the Cattle Mutilation before Icarus DDT’s his knee. CHUCK TAYLOR WITH AWFUL WAFFLE ON DRAGON FOR TWO! Chuck locks in a single leg crab on Danielson and taps him in 11:09, and the most dangerous trio in CHIKARA are your 2009 King of Trios winners. Great match, simply outstanding.

Chuck Taylor makes Bryan Danielson tap out.... damn!
