On the topic of grammatical issues. One thing I've never understood is the use of parenthesis, wats the idea with shit like this...

"...then, after recovering the body, [he] jumped over the fence and escaped..."

possibly a bad example, but i see that a fair bit in news articles and what not. I dont get it, because sometimes you can't read the sentence without the word in the brackets. whats the go, there?

[xxx] denotes that you've replaced a word to make a quote gramatically correct within it's context.

The word in (whatever) square brackets (are called) SHOULD be read.

The common use you see is "he" replaced by "[Bob]" (e.g.).
