Punk defeated William Regal for the Intercontinental Championship in his hometown (how strange). First off, what are your thoughts on that? I see this as a pretty good accomplishment for Punk and he can (although we always say this when there's a new champion) bring prestige back to the thing. I think Punk and Regal will go back-and-forth for the title in a longterm feud, well, I hope. How do you feel about Punk being the new champion? Who do you want him to feud with? How long do you want him to be the champion?

CM Punk as Intercontinental Champion = Pwnage!!! The Regal/Punk match = MOTN! Anyway.. I hope he has a long reign as Intercontinental Champion.. And most importantly, I'd like the Regal/Punk feud to continue.. Then have a rematch at No Way Out.. Punk retains.. Then begins a feud with Mysterio.. And both have a helluva Intercontinental Championship Match at WrestleMania XXV!!!

I would have at least liked to have seen Regal have some succesful defences before dropping the belt (not counting the non-event matches against Punk from the previous week's Raws) in order at leats go some way to fullfilling his claim of bringing back prestige to the IC-title... Punks eventual win would have mean so much more too.

I'd have had Regal get a dirty victory, plow through a couple of challengers over the next 2 months and then had Punk win a battle royal or something to become #1 contender again and win it at WM.

Please tell me they at least had an evenly contested and decent length match.....

Yeah, I agree it was too early.

Considering it was RAW, that doesn't say much so I'm not sure about the decent match part.

I think it was way too early for him to win the belt. And Regal should of had successful title defenses before dropping the title. And I mean real defenses, not those 2 and 3 minute ending in DQ matches. All the talk about bringing back prestige for months only for him to lose it during his 1st defense. And to me, the match was over-rated with people saying it was the best match and so on. I don't have no problem with a lot of holds and stuff during matches, but it was no selling at all during the match. I think Punk's over-rated anyway so maybe that's just a biased opinion. But maybe they'll have a long term feud and put on good matches to prove me wrong.

No, I agree with you and Punk's my favorite, so.

I was hoping for a long cat and mouse game between these two before Punk finally won. There's still hope though. If we're lucky they may kinda pit these guys as rivals for a long time to come. Like even feuds the two have with other people can still be lined to each other somehow.

Fun Fact: CM Punk is now the fastest Triple Crown Champion ever.

Now, off to bed for me.

Are you sure? I thought both Diesel (as a bonafide wrestler) and Angle achieved triple crown staus in their debut year.

Yeah I thought Kurt was but according to the main site.....

Mike sent the following: So after C.M. Punk won the title tonight, I did some research. Punk became a triple crown champion (World, Tag Team, Intercontinental) faster than anyone else in the company. From his first title reign (June 30, 2008) to tonight (January 19, 2009), it has been 203 days. The only person close to that was Kevin Nash who became a triple crown champion in 227 days. Don't know if this means anything in the long run, but it is interesting to see Vince solidify him in history like this.

And their partial source was pwinsider.com

I'm really liking thi feud and I also hope it continues. Regal is solid, and can bring a valid reason as to why he wants to be IC Champion so bad. As for a Mania match: absolutely.

Ultimtaley I'm right tho'..... It's not as if Punk debuted 30.06.08. He'd been with the company over a year before that.

Edit: As for Angle, I was incorrect... No tag reign in his debut year.

From the beginning of this feud, I got the sense that Punk would easily defeat Regal. Almost that Regal didn't deserve to be in the same ring as Punk.

I guess, in my mind at least, that Punk is above midcard belts at this point. They are going to be hard pressed to find a midcard heel to look like a reasonable challenger. I guess Morrison would be the only credible challenger.

I don't think they did it by when they debuted. I think they're doing from the day he won the World Heavy Weight title to yesterday when he won the IC-title.

But now that I think about it, that doesn't make since. He won the ECW title in 07 I think, where does that fit in? Did they just forget about that? Does that not count as a title to achieve triple crown? I always thought getting the triple crown, it was winning any three titles, which in Punk's he would have achieved that when he got the tag title, right?

@ CenaMark54: It's comments like that why I believe Punk is over-rated now.

The Triple Crown only includes the World Title, Tag Titles, and IC Title.

The ECW title is just another feather in Punk's predetermined cap.
