Randy Orton has been telling friends that WWE offered him a 10-year contract. No word yet on whether Orton has agreed to the deal.

WWE is trying to sign Rey Mysterio to a five-year deal and now they are trying to keep Orton around for twice as long. I'm not sure what the motivation is to re-sign the wrestlers to such long deals when TNA appears to be the only other option, but the fact that WWE is trying to ink Orton to such a long deal says a lot about their perception of him as a performer.

Make it 15, lol. He has proven he can carry the company, and he deserves a big contract.

Its a good move on the part of the WWE. They are making sure the biggest stars in the industry are under their control for the foreseeable future. They recently wrapped Cena up for 10 years and now they will be doing the same for Orton. Good news for WWE fans.

Granted, TNA is the only other option really, however, if both Orton and Cena went to TNA, it would be a huge blow for the WWE. I really can't think of anything else that would help TNA and hurt the WWE at the same time. Not that it would happen, but the WWE is just covering all their bases.

Its a smart move. He's one of WWE's top heels and they don't want to lose him

One thing though, TNA isn't the only option.

AAA is also fighting to sign Rey Mysterio, and they are offering a huge deal and promising him movie deals to make him the 21st Century "Santo".

lol @ AAA actually being considered an 'option'. Too funny. Almost pissed my pants.

Anyways, Orton + 10 year contract = pure win!!!! Orton can carry the company along with Cena and Edge for that time. Good move by the E if this is indeed true.

I think that this shows how much they are afraid of the competition being TNA, it shows that they want to sign everyone now and hold onto them tight and not only taking people from TNA over ie; Christian (not that it is a bad thing.)

I just think that WWE are starting to notice TNA and are quickly signing guys with long contracts so they stick with them and don't go anywhere.

But that's my thoughts even though the 'E won't admitt it.

^^^He has got to be getting over a million a year by now.

There are pros and cons to signing long term contracts. It provides stability if you get hurt or start to suck. However, 10 years is a long time. Who knows how much main eventers will be getting paid in 10 years. Orton could find himself drastically underpaid.

Personally, I would take the financial security.

Not really. Both Orton and WWE would just restructure the contract and give Orton a pay raise. It happens in all sports, and I guess it would be the same in wrestling.

To be fair Orton has tamed down his Rest holds and Chinlocks a lot. Glad he is getting a long contract. IMO he is the future of wwe along with Cena.

Orton could find himself drastically underpaid.

This was actually the first thing I thought of when I read this. 10 years is a very long time.

That being said though Orton is far and away my favorite heel in the WWE at this point in time. I think he's taken his game to a totally different level over the past year and a half.

Orton also does something that most wrestlers aren't; he draws the 16-25 male demographic. He appeals to the younger adult males which is a very important deomgraphic for the WWE and a demographic that Cena doesn't appeal strongly too. 10+ years of Cena drawing the kids and women and the anti-hero heel Orton drawing the younger adult males could equal big success for the WWE in the future.

On a side note, I believe that Orton will eventually be more important to the WWE than Cena will be. I think Orton will eventually be a bigger star.

Cena is already in his prime. His popularity has leveled off. I also think his in ring skills are as good as they are ever going to get.

Orton on the other hand, hasn't even entered his prime and is still improving dramatically.

Ten years? That's too long. Signing such a long term contract wouldn't be the best decision for Randy Orton. He can't go anywhere or do anything except within the WWE itself. It provides him stability and financial security but then again, what if he wants to go the other way around?
