New Age Wrestling
Backstory:
The birth of New Age Wrestling all began in late September of 2007. The World Wrestling Entertainment company recently renewed the contract of Mick Foley. A legend, an icon, and a fan favorite. Of course, this was a loss to Total Nonstop Action as they have anxiously awaited the purchasing of Mick Foley’s contract, yet they stayed out to dry yet again. Mick Foley assumed a position friends say he hated, as a commentator. He missed being inside the ring tugging with new comers, and being stepping stones for their careers to sky rocket up the industry.
It’s the beginning of a new year, and its that time again as Mick Foley’s WWE contract is on the verge of expiring. Mick Foley has publicized his disliking of his role on television, but does it because he has to. Backstage, at the Royal Rumble pay per view, Mick was promised a spot in the match. Yet, he was denied it last minute because WWE wanted to reintroduce The Big Show. A man who has gotten by due to his sheer size. This was said to be the last straw that Mick Foley took. Mick got into a heated argument with Vince McMahon, and that argument nearly escalated into a serious issue. Mick eventually calmed down, and hung his head phones as some would say. He quit the company, and left WWE, and his weak position.
Now without a doubt every wrestling promotion big enough, was after Mick Foley. Especially, the biggest opponent, and competition for WWE, which is TNA. TNA rushed to Mick Foley, and acquired is covenant contract. Mick Foley is set to debut at TNA’s premiere first quarter pay per view Lockdown. Mick Foleys debut went through successfully, and he is managing a group of young stars, and will be very active in the ring. Exactly, how Mick wanted to go about the rest of his career. Rumors began swerving around about Mick’s early departure from TNA. But Mick Foley quickly killed each rumor in a press conference. Mick Foley also debuted his talent manager Harvey Garrison. Harvey was said to be an excellent business manager, and really knew how to get someone’s name out there, Of course, we all knew “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley. So one would guess that he was there for money purposes, and contract deals surrounding Mick Foley.
The competition between TNA, and WWE is now neck, and neck. With WWE’s ratings severely dropping, and TNA’s severely increasing. Its mid summer, and WWE just lost a huge contract. Which was Mick Foley’s close personal friend Jeff Hardy. Jeff said he left the company due to him not receiving his push as promised earlier this year. Once again, TNA was at the scene and quickly promised Jeff Hardy a main event spot in their shows. Jeff Hardy debuted the same week as WWE’s Great American Bash pay per view which amazingly flopped. Especially, after Jeff Hardy not going to his long awaited ladder match with CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship, which Jeff was said to win. But once again, a last minute change cost WWE a huge contract.
Its Summerslam time for the WWE, who are still recuperating after that horrendous loss of Jeff Hardy. To add fuel to the flame, Matt Hardy has been very aggravated with his own personal push, and is being influenced by his brother Jeff Hardy. Mick Foley, and Jeff Hardy work a program together that grosses big numbers for TNA. Mick Foley’s seven month contract is set to expire a week after Mick, and Jeff’s program ends. TNA is said to offer another seven month contract to Mick Foley, which leaves Harvey Garrison somewhat suspect of TNA’s motives, and doesn’t allow Mick to take the deal. Harvey instead proves his excellence, and receives a big deal for Mick Foley, paying nearly triple Booker T’s contract with TNA. Matt Hardy also eventually left WWE due to yet a third consecutive last minute decision at Unforgiven. TNA doesn’t look Mathew’s way leaving the brother of Jeff Hardy high, and dry.
Matt Hardy comes off very frustrated, and goes back to his roots with OMEGA. He trains several independent stars, and makes some money here and there. TNA interferes with Jeff being featured on the promotion which causes some conflict. Mick Foley isn’t to fond with that maneuver pulled by TNA, and makes his feelings heard by Harvey. Harvey makes probably the most riskiest move in his life, when he asked for yet another contract double for Mick Foley. Mick is now being paid almost triple the amount Kurt Angle is paid. Yet, Kurt Angle is the highest paid star in TNA, before Mick Foley.
It is now October, and Mick Foley has became close to a billionaire with the amount of money he receives from TNA. Several stars are very unhappy, and begin to question their own contracts. This isn’t only in TNA, but in WWE as well. Mick Foley decides to depart with TNA, and retires from professional wrestling. Harvey Garrison doesn’t think so, as he calls for a meeting with OMEGA owner Matt Hardy. OMEGA has been reaching the level of Ring of Honor lately. Harvey Garrison makes probably the best move of his career, when he offers Mick Foley a huge deal to invest in OMEGA. Mick Foley of course does so, and puts nearly 80% percent of his money into this wrestling promotion that statistics say will flop, and wont even surpass Ring Of Honors level.
This of course was not the case, as OMEGA received two huge shakeups. Mick Foley became the owner of OMEGA, and changed the name to New Age Wrestling. TNA’s world champion at the time also departed with the company. TNA’s champion was none other than Jeff Hardy. Garrison, and Matt Hardy didn’t need much to convince Jeff Hardy to join the NAW train. Now NAW has probably two of the biggest superstar contracts in the industry. Jeff Hardy, and Mick Foley. This led to another big contract loss of WWE’s. That of which was none other than the three time world champion. “The Legend Killer” Randy Orton. His shocked the world, and left wrestling fans in awe. Randy Orton led a movement through out, as not only did he leave the WWE, but so did several young talents such as Matt Sydal, Elijah Burke, Chris Jericho, and several more. The motives of Randy Orton leaving WWE were mainly due to conflict with his newly born daughter, wife, and health. Randy said that the hours just weren’t cutting it, and he was being worked like a dog. Randy of course made his buzz even bigger when he posted a dozen blog’s which part took in the leaving of the other young stars.
The upcoming of New Age Wrestling didn’t stop there, as bombarding came from all over. While in Total Nonstop Action stars such as Alex Shelly, Chris Sabin, and Abyss all wanting separate deals with NAW. The formation of a epidemic was amongst us all. The New Age was shortly arriving to Sports Entertainment. In the form of professional wrestling. Its name… NAW
