"kayfabe."
Pffft. Kayfabe died years ago. You know when Sting comes out talking about WCW, and his matches in the past? Or when HHH calls out Jeff Hardy for his real-life problems? Stuff like that has killed kayfabe. There's no reason to call them wrestlers anymore.
I fail to see how this would affect the product....at all.

I don't see how this is for example anything different from a promo in which wrestlers say "I come out here night after night to entertain you".
im not surprised, looking at your usernames. :nonono:

ok, i remember in one of booker t's feuds, the other guy (i think it was triple h) told him "you're not an wrestler, you're an entertainer". sooooooooooooooooooo within the show itself, the word "just entertainer" is kind of an insult. how are guys like cena, triple h and hbk going to accept that? wouldn't that hurt their image/reputation?

second thing, WHETHER WE KNOW ITS REAL OR NOT YOU SHOULDNT FUCKIN BREAK KAYFABE THAT WAY. we all know a movie's a movie. we all know batman is actually christian bale. are you guys saying the movie's quality would be the same if he gets called by his real name (or just "actor")instead of batman? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? wouldn't this make "suspending your disbelief" harder, kaedon?

face it. "words" mean a lot. while some of em cant have much of an affect on the show, some others can. SUPERSTARS' NAMES MATTER. picture undertaker wrestling, under the same gimmick but with the name "the heart break kid". wouldnt that hurt his fuckin character?

another thing that you should clear off your thick wanna-be minds is LOOKS. LOOKS MAKE A FUCKING DIFFERENCE. no matter how good some superstars are in the ring, if they dont have "the look", they shouldn't be champions. but thats a different story, so leave it to later.

boxers, footballers, race drivers ALL tell the fans in press conferences that despite the results, they'll give em something special to watch. does that mean we should call them all entertainers instead of "boxers", "footballers" or whatever?

add to that what airfixx said, how are they going to erase "wrestling" from the name? is it going to be WEE? wtf?

and wtf is edge gonna be called? the rated E entertainer?

while you're at it, get rid of the first W. you cant order shit online if you live in certain countries, you couldn't get in the million dollar mania if you dont live in the US and now you cant vote if you're not in the US.

it should be "America's Entertaining Entertainment" now.

"vote" referring to cyber sunday.

lol at American Entertaiment Entertaiment. That is gold. But that is true sure it will be different but they are entertainers you come mainly to see the intersting storylines and feuds. That is what makes you want to tune in to the next show not weather or not someone hit a suplex on another person. They are entertainers not Wrestlers sure they wrestle but that is only a fraction of their daily lives which together make up the AEE :shifty:

Ok, I see where a lot of you are coming from, but they haven't officially started calling them entertainers during the shows. If they don't refer to them as entertainers within their product, it won't be anything at all. Basically I'm saying if they don't break the kayfabe within the product, it's fine. And anything else is whatever.

Like TDK said, if Christian Bale was referred to by his real name or just "actor" during TDK, it would ruin the kayfabe of the story. But when Christian Bale is out doing a promotional tour for the movie, he talks about the character he plays and most actors refer to the major differences and likenesses between their own character and the character they're playing. But it doesn't ruin the movie.

I'm not gonna lie, I find most of HHH's un-kayfabe comments to be rather funny (with the exception of when he "educated" Benjamin and MVP on promos...that kind of pissed me off (you could visibly tell MVP was upset about it too)), but that's only because he doesn't go all out. They're jut references, sometimes very subtle ones. They could have completely killed kayfabe when DX was feuding with the McMahons and Stephanie had her baby. They didn't say HHH was the father, but they made reference to it for those who knew. And they kept it going like it didn't even happen, even when HHH wasn't at RAW because of the birth, HBK said he was spying on the McMahon or something to that effect. But the point is they rarely ever flat-out throw kayfabe out the window. And I doubt that will change. I don't think they'll refer to anyone as entertainers on screen, but off-screen, out of character, yeah. So just wait and see how it is applied before anyone decides it ruins the product.

Oh, and HHH, if you want to make references to non-kayfabe events, I have a word I would like you to memorize:

SUBTLE!

Have you ever thought maybe Triple H was told to do that on purpose now? With the whole intentional thinning of the line of kayfabe I doubt he just woke up one day and decided he was going to make those sort of jokes, so no point to single Triple H out... It kinda makes sense if you think about it, in regards to what TDK said regarding that storyline, which I too vaguely remember. But, like Monkey said, I guess it's towards the same extent of the brand name change, I wouldn't be surprised if they would be taken this direction now and it would only have as much impact as the prior change. They will obviously never completely break kayfabe and I'm sure they will still be referred to as wrestlers fairly frequently, so I think this unproven source has been taken a little too seriously, I do see Roxxi's point though.

^Good post, I agree for the most part. But people are always going to single out HHH no matter what he does. And I agree that this unreliable source, as most internet sources are, is being taken too seriously.

I don't see how this will downgrade the product. They've called them entertainer before, it's not like this is a new word. Superstars has always been a stupid term imo. But as said before they're still calling them wreslters anyway so I don't know how serious this really is.

EDIT: I just saw this topic was 2 days old, sorry for bumping.

specify please.

She meant that the only people who singled out Trips is his fans as they have a quasi auto defense mode that makes them think he is guilty of nothing and they must defend him...even if he wasn't involved. =/
