I bet my left testicle it's some idiot with skin so thin a blind man can see through it decided to moan to her equally moronic followers because boys and girls don't get to wear the same clothes. Anyone that thinks Pokemon will ever comment on or utilize LGBT characters is a twat whose opinion should immediately be disregarded. Why on earth would a company that markets its games towards children do that whenever it'll cause people not to buy the games. The fact of the matter is that societies as a whole don't view LGBT people in one specific way. It's a political issue that gets people's jimmies riled up. A kid's game has no business involving itself in controversial politics. It'll damage sales and reputation until we reach a point where there is only one view towards LGBT people. Only then is it gonna be safe for Pokemon to finally explain that the reason our character's dad isn't around is because he turned gay and left his wife.
/vp/ - Fucking Phoenix Rising, we want to be pandered to, - Pokémon - 4chan Have fun reading that lol

That's a fan game, so it doesn't matter. If the 4chan geeks are right about Phoenix Rising shoving gay characters in players' faces, then I'm going to chalk that up as proving me right about the game being garbage. Chalk that up as another win for Gerbil, ladies and gents! Needlessly edgy stories and characters are EXACTLY what makes Pokemon fan games the best fan games in the world!

I mean you can be an open supporter of differences without shoving it down people's throats.
Everyone wants that pat on the back and validation they good people I guess.

I haven't gotten far in PR to really see what 4Chan is talking about but I honestly wasn't paying attention to the story a whole lot. I just wanted to catch mons, get a team, and take on gyms. Oh gosh... I sound like a Pokemon Let's Go supporter...

It also proves that I was right about the game being better off if it didn't involve Pokemon. People really ought to focus on making a Pokemon game rather than just making a story and setting that story in a Pokemon world.

That's a message that can be made without directly involving gay characters. Any fan game that involves religion or politics (LGBT is political right now) is a failure and deserves to be mocked. Pokemon barely even displays the concept of romance in the first place, and they think it's wise to add abnormal relationships into the mix? Ridiculous!

Assuming 4chan's right about this. I'm not wasting my time bothering to find out and certainly won't place trust in that website's users. You get to be our lead investigator on this issue, Ekans Dilos. Go get us the scoop on this story!

Personally, I don't care if there is homosexuality in that game. Which I am guessing it is since the character is more of an "avatar," then likely there is a set character your's is meant to get a "sort of relationship" with, which means there is a 50/50 chance your character is of the same gender as them. Besides, it's the demo, so if people throw too much of a fit, they can just change the dialogue depending on the character you pick in a later version.

Or you could not care so much about the story and just play the game like me. lol

I have a feeling 4chan and friends is overreacting.

It is likely an overreaction. Besides, these days, while Gerb/Punk says "It's political" to me, I just see it as they're making a game not for profit, but just to express their love of a franchise, and if it is just what I say and maybe they hug or do a smooch or something small, it's whatever. If they go over the top to push that fact, then it's would be making a big deal and potentially shoving it down people's throats. It's kind of what it is with showing woman empowerment (take with a grain of salt from a guy). There is nothing wrong with making a strong female character to "push the envelope" but if the idea is over the top then it loses its message or muddies a story. Besides, there are people in the LGBT community out there, even some on the forum, and even if you don't go "cater to them," you still have to get "Hey, they are people."

I'm the kind of person who doesn't give a crap who sleeps with who or who identifies as what. That is personal business. As long as you're not using it to get ahead in life or shove it in people's faces, I don't care. You do you. I get why people would be mad for bringing that into a mostly "innocent" and child based platform of a game though but this is created by a small group of devs not looking to make any profit so if you don't like the story, don't play the game. If this is the case and there are things related to sexual identities or lack there of in the game, that is likely down to the creators wanting to have something for everyone in their game and hey, it is their game so they can do what they want with it. It is meant to appeal to an internet community and we should know just by being on this forum alone, not all crayons in the same box are the same color.

A romance storyline is garbage by default. That being said, they could easily adjust the game so that the gender of the character you hook up with is opposite to that which you choose. Considering how they refuse to declare the gender of their protagonists (despite it being plain as day what they are just by looking at them), I doubt it's just bad programming. If Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald can handle the basic concept of changing a character's image depending on the player character's image, then there's no excuse for these people not to do the same if they actually cared about the relationship being straight in the first place, which again, they probably didn't.

It is likely an overreaction. I want Pokemon to be the same way it was when I was a kid. For any normal game I wouldn't care, but it immediately stops being a genuine Pokemon experience for me whenever they deliberately add dumb things that would never be in a real Pokemon game. Phoenix Rising has no reason to be a Pokemon game other than to garner attention simply because it has the Pokemon label attached to it. I don't care if they made it because of passion. Dumb concepts need to be called dumb as many times as necessary until it sinks in. I swear, the only Pokemon fan game I've ever seen that wasn't a complete joke with edgy and unbelievable concepts was Pokemon Gaia. These people are the same types of guys that mod guns into Skyrim.

If I spot anything, I will let you guys know. I haven't gotten to the first gym yet so it may take awhile lol

Be on the lookout for Pokemon with the move Attract. See if males can use it on males and females use it on females. I'm going to laugh my ass off if Attract can only be male and female despite the main storyline involving on a gay relationship.
