Well, RRS, you're not reading very deep. What you should have got was that there is a perception in Canada and Europe apparently that anyone in America who owns and uses guns is a Redneck blueberry. I was born and raised in Tennessee and now live in Oklahoma and am insulted by that kind of classification. Don't hate the rest of the world...we just don't owe you any explanations...we had a government come and try and confiscate our guns oh...over 200 years ago. That didn't end well.

I'm sorry. I'm just cynical enough not to trust the world to play fair or my government to be there when I need them to protect me. ESPECIALLY in the kind of world we live in. We are moments away from anarchy...good luck protecting yourself then with your fists...

That's just a mindless perception. Not all Canadians think that for one, mainly the extremists. A gun is only good for certain range, I get up close you're fucked, end of story. Why have a gun? To protect your family? That's a piss poor excuse in my opinion. Guns are meant really for one thing and one thing only, and that's killing other beings. You use that gun, you're no better than the idiot who's shooting up the place. Why not try to stop him by knocking him out, let him go to prison where he'll most likely get killed or worse because he doesn't have a gun of his own. I'm thinking your idea of defence and mine are completely different.

I hope you don't have children. The man that naively thinks he can get up close to some home invader who desires to hurt his family deserves to be murdered for his stupid belief.

I'd assassinate the fuck out of anybody who even stepped foot on my doorstep and threatened my family. Period. Head or chest blown apart with a Mossberg 700. There is no disputing that. There's no "duty to flee" as there is in the UK (And with good reason. We have violent criminals, illegal aliens and drug addicts who are desperate, unlike Canada's "Utopia of Shining Happy People" who don't deal with crime)

But then again, I'm not an indoctrinated, anti-gun pussy who trusts the justice system to round all the home invaders up and put them in jail, either.

Jesus these personal insults are pointless. If you don't agree with someone, say just that "I disagree" and then state your point.

I don't believe stricter gun laws are necessary. Outlawing guns completely will work just as well as outlawing alcohol did. Criminals who already get their guns illegally will continue to do just that, and you take them away from the normal people who use them for things like hunting (I'm from the South, lots of people still hunt, and the only way to get some good Venison is to kill the deer yourself).

The problem is not guns, it's not video games, it's the pop culture and media of the United States. I haven't read through this entire thread, so I'm sure someone has already stated how everyone knows the shooter's name, but most can't name a single victim. Same goes for other recent mass shootings such as the Batman one. I'll leave you with this:

'piss poor excuse'? Wow..coming from someone who doesn't have kids...I know you RRS...lol. I respect your opinion...but we live in different worlds and NOT just because I'm in America...lol.

Oh, and statistics go both ways for that heaven called Australia...lol

The Captain's Journal » Do Gun Bans Reduce Violent Crime? Ask the Aussies and Brits

Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America’s rate dropped 31.7 percent.
During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
Sexual assault — Australia’s equivalent term for rape — increased 29.9 percent.
Overall, Australia’s violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.

I will commence by stating that I am very disturbed by this shooting. I don't know why anyone would want to take away the lives of innocent children. It is beyond sick. It is also outrageous that we have to worry about sending our children to schools only to find out that they died. Schools should be safe for children, not a place where they risk being shot. My condolences are offered to the children's families. I don't know how they are dealing with this. Quite frankly, I don't know how I would either and I don't even want to think about it.

With that said, THIS NEEDS TO STOP! We can't just sit here and let psychotic people have access to guns. If everyone has easy access to guns, this is what happens! We can't expect everyone that owns a gun to be a responsible and good person. They need to make the law a lot stricter and let people that REALLY need it to have access to it such as the police. I am fed up of hearing about these stories. If nothing gets done, we will keep hearing these stories and nothing will ever change. I understand there are other issues in the USA and that individuals can use other weapons but let's face it, the biggest issue right now is that guns are easily accessible and that needs to change as soon as possible. Even if that does not work, which I highly doubt, at least something is being done.

Keep it civil. Yes this is a highly emotional topic but everyone should still be able to have a mature discussion over it. If you don't think that you can handle a mature discussion then simply don't respond to this thread.

Back on topic I still have yet to see an argument for why automatic/semi-automatic weapons are needed by the general public. This incident wouldn't have occured if they were banned as I pointed out with the Australian gun ban. I never claimed that all gun crime had reduced I simply said that there had been no mass shootings since that incident which is what we are discussing here. There is no need for an automatic weapon other than to kill many, many people so no-one should have access to them except for shooting at a range.

The way I see it to have a gun you need the following

Gun Licence
Hunting Licence

And you need to be checked to see if your all there in the head as well.

Rest in Peace to all that lost their lives. Sad tragedy :(.

In the argument of gun control. There's more incidents of Gun Crime in the US in a day, than there is in the UK in a year.... Speaks for itself really.

Once again, the people committing these crimes attain their guns illegally in the first place. How are more laws going to stop anything when they already don't follow the ones we have?

The guns were licenced to the shooters mother. How did they help to protect her?

Oh yeah thats right, she was the first person shot & killed, with her own guns.

So should we ban cars and alcohol since more people are killed in drunk driving accidents than firearm violence? I mean, after all, if we get rid of cars, then people can't get access to them and murder people. That'll surely work.

Let's ban knives because they're scary looking. Someone might get a hold of one and mass murder people.

There might be sword attacks, get rid of them too!

Oh man, a dog might eat my face, they've got to go!

We could be like the UK and ban everything, and you know what? Criminals will STILL find the means to harm, maim and kill. That's what you Euros don't understand about the Gun argument. Your peaceful and safe countries don't have the social problems that we do. Be fortunate you can sit in cafes all day and not worry about a drug addled gangbanger wanting to hold you up or kill you for the 10$ in your wallet. So stay up on your soapbox and finger wag all you want and tell us we're wrong and that we need to melt down our weapons in public squares while United abomiNations officials look on with ravenous, salivating glee. It's not happening.

You do realize you are only reinforcing the stereotypes of gun toting Americans right?

First & foremost, the number of complaints about Canada & the UK trying to get involved in your own politics, while forgetting all the times the states has sent militairy to other parts of the world to "bring democracy to the people" is contradicting in and of itself, nevermind America is a Republic, not a Democracy.

Then there is Australia, at its inception was a colony where England could send their criminals, based on that one would assume the social dynamics of Australia would be based on criminal activity & violence. Yet the states a colony where high class settlers started, would become the nation hell bent on violence, and put their criminals on pedestals.

The debate about knives is moot, China had a similair attack the same day with a knife, they are suffering from 23 injured, America is dealing with 26 dead, because of legally obtained guns in the shooters house.
