Never liked the Wrestler, the main character isn't sympathetic at all.

I am a sucker for The Wrestler so that got my vote. Still maintain that Rourke was robbed at the Oscars. Penn only won because he played a gay man whereas Rourke played a wrestler.

1. The Fountain is the only one of his I have yet to see. WAL why is Black Swan ridiculious? It is taking after some classic b-movies such as the work of Dario Argento and David Lynch, it is a bit of a mess but it is meant to be. Also it represents a true view of the extreme preasures of that world.

2. That might true deezy, but the daughter and stripper characters are and it is for their sake that you want him to pull through.

3. You raise an interesting point Troy.

Black Swan is silly because it's just not believable at all. I mean, hallucinating murdering someone, disposing of their body, then dancing around on stage with a giant shard of glass stuck inside your gut and not even noticing? Or anyone else noticing for that matter? Oh please. And how does molesting your dancers lead to uninhibiting them? Most people who get molested wind up the exact opposite. There are just so many plot holes, I can't even begin to take that movie seriously. I love Darren Aronofsky, but Black Swan got pretty ridiculous.

You seem to be missing the point, its a surrealist film and what actually happens at the end is up for the viewer to decide, its not a 100% that she stabbed herself. For all we know the whole story was in her head. Point is by doing it in that style Aronofsky is giving the sense of what its like to be trapped in a bubble and have that extreme preassure on you. It is a great work of art, a b-movie and a film with themes all in one. And it is Portman's performance which keeps you hooked.

This is the main reason I didn't like the guy, he had his chance with his daughter and he fucked it up to go bang a ring rat, and the stripper he fell in love with showed up to help him start a new life and he ditched her too.

Why would a care about a guy who didn't save his money, burned every bridge he had and didn't learn a damn thing.

Fair enough, but I guess the reasons you didn't care are the reasons I did. Also just think it is the power of the film, and as a wrestler fan felt it gave me a vivid account of the life as an indie wrestler and highs and lows.

It really didn't give a good account of the indies, a veteran of star power would never get stiffed from payoffs because they are not stupid and get the money upfront, and they don't make peanuts. Honkytonk Man gets atleast 2-5 grand at indie shows. And this guy is supposed to be at Hogan type level when he was in his prime. And don't get me started on that hardcore shit, noway any veteran would even let some guy put staples into him. This is a total mark movie.

You make some fair points, but there are always going to be plot holes. I guess I was speaking more of from a visual stand point, it really did have that feel of grudgy, downbeat indie experience. Also details like you mention don't really matter, the point is it is summing up the life style of a broken down star trying to relive his youth and from that point of view it felt pretty spot on to me.
