Before the main event and co-main event of UFC 153 were changed within the last 48 hours due to injuries sustained by separate fighters, Renan Barão (29-1-1 NC) didn't plan to defend his newly won interim bantamweight championship in front of his home country.Barão's manager, Jair Lourenço spoke to TATAME and cited time as a reason for not wanting to fight.

"No, can't do," said Lourenço. "It's too close. He's been training hard, but not for a fight. [The UFC] haven't approached us yet."

While Lourenço sees a potential fight against Michael McDonald (15-1) down the road, it won't happen on the October 13 card.

"I guess he wouldn't be 100 percent for a fight that close in order to put on a performance like he should," said Lourenço. "It wouldn't be good for him right now, but it's one to think about."

The UFC has since announced that Anderson Silva (32-4) vs. Stephan Bonnar (14-7) will headline the Brazil PPV.

Their was rumor's floating around that he was going to defend his title at this show before Silva/Bonnar was announced. Pretty much every show the rest of the year has solid main event's (Unless of course there's more injuries) so we likely won't be seeing him fight until 2013.

Just as long as he fights eventually and doesn't pull a Condit and wimp out and refuse to fight as interim Champ, thus making the interim Championship 100% pointless if he just wants to be the number one runner...I mean contender.

Pretty much  I kind of understand where Condit is coming from, but it's still annoying that he's been champion since February and hasn't fought even though he's healthy and there's been plenty of good match up's at 170.

He's created a real logjam at 170, theres alot of guys that are right on contenders status, but Condits refusal to defend the interim belt has led to guys like Hendricks sitting out as well in case they lose their contender status. When GSP comes back and tools Condy theres alot of new WWs at the top.

Getting sick of the power the fighters hold over the promotions now, it's getting too much like boxing.

Considering the flak Jon Jones got it's only fair Barao gets the same, I like the guy but why he's waiting for Cruz is anyones guess. Dana should just say to these guys, fight or you don't get your shot at the champ anymore.

IF he's gonna wait for Cruz then we more than likely won't see him fight for a year. If the actual champ is gonna be out that long then the Interim needs to fight. I mean what else are all the other guys gonna do?

People hating on Condit are so hypocritical. If you were in his shoes, you would do all you can to get a dream fight against St.Pierre even if it meant waiting 8 months or so. Condit is still fighting two fights a year and that's the standard. Just more nonsense in the forums, whateves.

I understand it and everything, I just don't like the idea of it. I like guys who are willing to go out and fight anybody at anytime. Maybe I'm a little bias though as i'm not the biggest Condit fan on this forum.

It wouldn't be that bad had Condit obliterated Nick Diaz to get his shot, but he eeked by on a razor thin decision using very defensive tactics after promising to stand and bang with Diaz.

He still has a lot to prove after that showing, IMO Kampmann deserves a shot way more than Condit, even beat him a few years ago too.

He's an interim Champ though, the whole point of being an interim Champ is your deemed to be the best WW while the true Champ is out, Condits basically just a number one contender seeing as he's too scared to fight and lose his status and if that's all he wants he shouldnt be an interim champ. What hes done is stall the entire division.

You know I like Condit, dude is ridiculous though for not wanting to defend the UFC interim title in the Summer. I mean really yeah I would want my dream fight with GSP, but if Dana told me to fight a dude before GSP to help out a card I would be down too do it. If I lose then I fuck up. I mean really you gotta think it is selfish for a fighter to not defend the belt when called upon. Not to mention the fact Condit comes from Greg Jackson's camp.

I mean dosen't Jon Jones fight three times a year and he is champ, and Cerrone fights four or five times a year. The Greg Jackson guy, Are one's that idealy always fight more then twice a year. Like Embrace Thou Maryse said. Condit just stalled the division, and thus more fighters lose there opportunities to a possible dream fight with GSP.

I know Condit is one of your faves, but put in perspective how pissed would you be if you were a WW in the UFC. I mean if your name is not Rory Macdonald your pretty much fighting hoping to get a good win to make you solid. Plus not to mention the WW division has been dead since there has been no hype around it besides the Rory and BJ fight.

Not a Condit hater, just don't like the fact that the interim champ is acting like he is the real champ. Renan also should have fought imo. I mean really you fight now, and then after wards have one more fight before Cruz comes back late summer you look golden.

I have no opinion on Condit, because waiting for GSP guarantees him a bigger payday than fighting Kampmann.

Barao should just fight, it is your job, no matter the excuse.

I miss people like Chuck Liddell, they would fight anyone anywhere at anytime.

Thats the problem with success/money. In the old days where there wasn't much money to be made in MMA guys fought because they loved to fight, they loved to find out if they were the best, they were martial artists. Thesedays its all about making money, they fight to get rich.
