According to Cesar Gracie's Twitter account, a statement will be posted on GracieFighter.com Friday at 1 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT regarding the future of Nick Diaz. The post was made late Thursday night.
Diaz is currently suspended until February of next year after testing positive for marijuana metabolites after his loss to Carlos Condit earlier this year. The Nevada Athletic Commission suspended him for a year and fined him a percent of his fight purse.

Diaz was expected to compete in a grappling match with Braulio Estima at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo this past May, but the former Strikeforce welterweight champion failed to show up.

I'll be around for this, sort of curious about it as last i read he was planning on continuing his MMA career.

So the announcement was....

He's going to be returning at the end of the year, and is asking for Anderson Silva. Nick and his manager have a meeting with Dana on Monday and they're going to discuss their options.

Yeah i think it was pretty predictable

Although, i wasn't exactly thinking he was going to ask for Silva. Thought he'd go straight for GSP in a return fight.

Silva and his manager sad they like the idea of a Diaz-Silva fight, and they're waiting to hear from Uncle Dana.

I find it hilarious that he can make 185 now when its Anderson Silva but when Strikeforce were trying to make Mayhem/Diaz he bitched and moaned about having to put on a few pounds.

What goes on inside that guys head.

He's insane lol. But yeah, i actually want to see the Silva fight but he's going to have to jump up to 185 and have a fight or two before getting that shot at him seeing as he's coming off a loss to Condit, regardless of controversy.

Maybe Diaz/Chael or Diaz/Lombard.

I can't even imagine the amount of trash talk if Diaz/Sonnen got made.

I didn't expect him to come out with that demand, wouldn't have thought he would want Silva. He better not get the next title shot as others are more deserving and he should have to actually win some fights at that weight before he gets the champion. I also like the sound of Diaz vs Sonnen.

Thing is though... all the top contenders have already been beat by Silva or would just not matchup well against him and most likely be blown away. Might as well bring someone up like Diaz... or GSP.

Diaz vs Sonnen would have to be a TUF, otherwise it's a waste.

Here's what Silva's Manager is saying about all this and what he thinks is best..

Wednesday, Silva's manager, Ed Soares, emphatically stated he doesn't think a bout with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is the right fight to make.

Speaking with reporters at the UFC on FOX 4 open workouts at the JW Marriott hotel in downtown Los Angeles, Soares ridiculed the notion of making a champion vs. champion superfight.

"I don't think it's a good fight," Soares said. "I think No. 1, Jon Jones, said he doesn't want the fight, and Anderson said he doesn't want the fight. What is it going to do for Jones if he goes go down in weight to fight Anderson? If he loses it's going to ruin him. If Anderson Silva moves up in weight and fights Jon Jones, here's a lighter guy who's going to take my title? C'mon dude.

"Anderson is fighting a much younger guy, a much bigger guy, and Jon Jones is going to be fighting a smaller guy who technically could be better than him. I can see why each guy wouldn't want to fight. What's the upside?"

When a reporter replied "money" to Soares rhetorical question, Soares answered "There's money out there regardless."

"[UFC president] Dana [White] can't force anyone to fight at a bigger weight class," Soares continued. "Anderson is the 185-pound champion. He'll fight anyone you put in front of him. So make Jon Jones make 185 pounds if you want that to happen."

With Soares insisting that Jones vs. Silva is unlikely, that leaves the question of Silva's next title defense open. There's a pack of fighters looking to make their case, the most vocal of whom has been Chris Weidman, who is ranked No. 3 at 185 pounds by MMAFighting.com. But Soares summarily dismissed Weidman when asked.

"I mean, because he had an impressive win over Mark Munoz and [Demian] Maia?" Soares paused and rolled his eyes before adding "Sure."

One name that Soares didn't reflexively reject was former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, whose manager, Cesar Gracie, said on Friday that Diaz would like a fight with the champion.

"Sure, we'll consider anyone the UFC puts in front of us, I don't have a choice," said Soares. "Nick Diaz is a good opponent possibly, I mean, he's a smaller guy, but he's a guy who comes out and fights every time, he's going to put on a good fight."

Of course, Diaz is under suspension until February, so Soares, like the rest of us, will wait and see what the UFC offers Silva.

"I don't know what's going to happen, that's a question for Dana and [UFC matchmaker Joe] Silva."

Now Diaz and his manager are lobbying to the UFC to let him fight over seas so if they wanted to do the Silva fight it could happen in Brazil as Nick would legally be allowed to fight their. He could technically fight some where else other than Nevada in the U.S. also, but that's not likely.
