Speaking to SLAM! Wrestling, Gail Kim explains why she disobeyed WWE by controversially eliminating herself from the Divas Battle Royal on the August 1 episode of Monday Night Raw. She says it was the culmination of all the disrespect she felt from WWE.

“I don’t regret what I did at all. It was a respect thing,†Kim says. “I was told to get eliminated as soon as possible, so that’s what I did. I saw my decision as a case of either continuing to take their lack of respect or doing something about it.

“Nobody knows what I went through in terms of disrespect during my time there, but that move wasn’t just about me it was a culmination of all the disrespect I felt that all the other women and the women’s division as a whole had received too, I was taking a stand.

“While a lot of fans watching Raw noticed what I did, nobody from WWE noticed, that just shows how much they didn’t care. I went up to Johnny [John Laurinaitis] after and spoke about the Battle Royal and his reaction towards the match was, ‘Yeah, I heard it was pretty shit.’ I was amazed and I then told him how I eliminated myself and he just laughed.

“How can fans take the division seriously if the people working for the company aren’t? If it had been one of the men who had eliminated themselves they would have been punished, but because it was the women nobody cared, not even after I had told them.â€

A few days later Kim announced on Twitter that she had quit WWE, however, she was not permitted to bolt. What followed was a standoff between WWE and their former Women’s Champion, which saw her forced to sit out the remainder of her contract.

“WWE are notoriously known for being controlling when it comes to your career, that night of the Battle Royal I went to Johnny and told him I quit, I said I don’t want your money; I just want to be free. He told me that it shouldn’t be a problem, but of course it was,†Kim says.

“They didn’t want me to work elsewhere, at this time I told him, ‘What does it matter if I leave or not? You’re not using me, it’s not like I’m valuable to you just let me go,’ but there was no budging.â€

After sitting at home for over two months waiting out the remainder of her contract, Kim finally made her much anticipated return to TNA Wrestling on the October 20 episode of Impact Wrestling, when she aligning herself with Madison Rayne and Karen Jarrett. Being a TNA Knockout means everything to her.

“I’m just so excited to be back in the company, I can’t speak for anybody in particular but the feeling I got when I came back was that there were no hard feelings about my previous decision to leave. Being back here feels like time has never passed.

“I think everyone kind of expected me to return. I said in my last interview when I was leaving that I would probably be back, everyone has been real welcoming, it’s like being a part of a family here at TNA. It’s great to see the growth that this company has made since I’ve been gone, it’s nice to see the direction its going and where they want to be heading.â€

She adds, “I’m just so happy to be here and to now be a part of a company once again that actually cares about wrestling.â€
I said it before and will say it again would feel sorry for her if it wasn't for the fact that she knew how this company viewed the division before coming back. I don't see why she thought her coming there would change it. So just guess she either got enough money that she needed from them or got to the point where the money just wasn't worth the trouble but obviously that had to be her main motivate for going back there given they don't give a shit about the divas sadly.

I always felt sorry for Gail. She was one of, if not THE best in WWE's women's division during both her runs but never really got the chance she deserved, and you can't say she didn't have the look either.

As much as I dislike TNA, its probably the better place for her. I doubt she'll get far (was she even successful in her last stint there?) but if all she wants is some regular airtime in the ring to do her thing, thats what she'll get.

She had the greatest feud in the history of the knockout division with Awesome Kong.

Yeah I don't watch TNA so I wouldn't know. But I remember hearing the reason she left the place in the first place was because of some sort of displeasure from how she was being used - or under-used.

I def do think WWE misused her and misuses the whole division. It's just hard to feel sorry for her in her second run because she went there strictly for the money cause I don't believe she honestly thought things were gonna change and they were gonna start treating the division right just cause she got there unless she was promised something when signing her and then they went back on it when she got there.

Her problem is that she got a big head in TNA during her run there. Every wrestling magazine and internet critic praised her and what she did for the Knockouts division to the stars. I guess she felt if there was anyone on the planet who could change WWE's women division, she could... but of course she couldn't. She should have known that she would need help from creative AND the producers, neither who have wanted any considerable time dedicated towards that division in years. Can't say I remember the last time an Asian star was pushed to any signifficant degree, let alone an Asian woman. Great Khali was probably the only Asian recently who did. Briefly.

Khali is from India :p

But yeah you're probably right as to why she thought she would change how WWE used the division if she came there since she seems to believe that WWE fears TNA's women's division which I don't believe for a second. If they feared it they would push their own division to compete with it. Thing is she originally was n WWE first so while she had big success in TNA and someone there probably suggested her to WWE after that they probably just saw her as just another diva not the woman who started TNA's KO division.

She knew what she was getting into when she signed with WWE again, she only went there for the money and so I don't know why she is complaining about no respect. TNA pushed her like a star yet she walked away from that to a place that she knew wouldn't push her. I like how she battled disrespect with disrespect. She should have just said that she was happy for the money but disappointed in how the division was used.

She was droped by WWE. If the WWE weren´t stupid, they could have such an awesome Divas Division with Michel McCool, Layla, Mickie James, Melina, Eve, Natalya, Beth Gail and some other. I mean, I alway enjoy watching WWE´s Divas because they´re hot, but If they have pushed the women that I wrote, It´d be Great & Hot, not just hot.

True they could have had a strong women's division but Gail would have known that WWE don't care that much about the Diva's and would have known that she would have been an afterthought and not a top priority.

She shouldn't have went back to the WWE in the first place. That was a stupid decision to begin with. I can't say I really feel bad for her at this point. She had it good in TNA and decided to go back to a company that hasn't cared about women's wrestling since Trish and Lita retired. I'm sorry to say this but Gail had it coming.

She just needs to be straight up about it and said I went back for the money, I got the money I needed at the time and decided it was no longer worth the paycheck. Not a chance in hell she could convince me she went back cause she expected WWE to push the division.

Exactly! The women's division has been awful for years now. Bringing her back to the company wouldn't have made a difference and obviously she knew that because she has worked there before. I wish she would just be honest rather than act as if she expected to be the next Trish Stratus of the WWE.

Seems like she felt she was held in that regard. I mean she did wonders for TNA but I think they made her big headed and she overvalued herself thinking her TNA success would transfer over to WWE.
