WWF SmackDown! January 3, 2002 Live Discussion Thread

Welcome one and all...to our first edition of our watch-along of the year 2002 in the great sport known as professional wrestling! We will be starting on January 3, 2002 for an edition of Thursday Night SmackDown! on UPN. The World Wrestling Federation has vanquished their rivals of WCW once and for all to end the Invasion. But before Mr. McMahon could celebrate, none other than the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair reveals himself to be co-owner of the WWF along with Vince. Meanwhile, Chris Jericho is in his first reign as Undisputed WWE Champion after beating both The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in one night. His challenger will be decided at the upcoming Royal Rumble PPV later in January. The WWF boasts their biggest roster in history at this point, and the Road to WrestleMania is just about to begin, so let's hop on for the ride!

The Live Discussion will start at 7 p.m. EST this upcoming Tuesday, so press play when your clock hits 7 on the dot!

I hope you all will join us weekly for these every Tuesday, or at least just a few you can. I'd like to get a schedule of watching one Raw and one SmackDown each Tuesday until we get to the PPV and then watch the PPV. I'm also more than willing to include other companies if we can find easy video access to them. I'll be more lenient with those, but let's also try to watch them around the time they fall in our WWE portion of the watch-along, but it doesn't have to be exact. The other companies will be watched on Saturdays at a time TBD. ​

I don't remember exactly but Tuesday was suggested and more people seemed to be able to make it then. We left Saturdays up for non-WWE shows as a way to keep this mostly WWE for people that don't have the Network, but to still watch other 02 promotions for those that wanted.

And full-disclosure, once the idea was thrown out, I liked Tuesday for this a lot more myself. Have a week of wrestling discussion each night, then Saturdays and Sundays reserved for PPVs (tho admittedly not many Saturday ones)

Because Saturdays aren't great for some people. Tuesday actually work great for me because I'm almost always off Tuesday and Wednesday or I'm off at 1:30 PT

Doing this early Saturday was just infinity better for me.

We're moving this back to 6:30 next week at least?

I'm also hoping Impact doesn't get really good once quarantine lifts because that would suck. Unless we did this at 6 in the fall.

I think one or the factors was that TakeOvers and AEW PPVs are on Saturdays.

But I'm gonna be a part time to this thing so don't let anything I say dictate the decisions made.

I forget the name, but it lets people watch stuff from someone’s tab. It was honestly really helpful.
