WWE's rumored hopes for WrestleMania 39 main event bouts

Even though this year's WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas, has yet to happen, WWE is already looking to make WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, California, its biggest ever.

In this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said the idea for next year's event at SoFi Stadium is to have Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vs. Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch as its two big showcase matches.

He also noted "a million things may happen between then and now" considering Johnson's schedule and how things are always changing in WWE, but that Rousey's deal is for her to be a regular on SmackDown through next year's Mania at minimum.

After nearly two years away, Rousey returned at this year's women's Royal Rumble match and won it. She is expected to use the win to challenge SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair at this year's WrestleMania which should be confirmed Friday night.

When news initially broke of Rousey returning, many thought a match against Lynch at this year's WrestleMania would be the plan given their stature and history.

Johnson hasn't wrestled since 2016's WrestleMania 32 in Dallas when he defeated Erick Rowan in six seconds. Before that, he was in WWE for three matches in 2013 against CM Punk (twice) and John Cena.

Would be pretty hard to keep Ronda/Becky from being hotshotted at Summerslam imo.

Not like theres a deep talent pool to keep either of them from getting stale by that time.

Yea, it's very much the same on my end too. A lot of will they/won't they with this feud, as soon as I see them in any sort of segment then I'm all in

Indeed. I 100% believe they want this. Just a cm punk situation when it comes to Rock in the ring (the long absence and having seemingly moved on part, not the bitterness part )

Yeah, it's pretty much all falling on The Rock and if schedule wise it fits in with everything else he does. I do think it being Roman would motivate him more to do it though. Plus it being in Hollywood is literally perfect. So yeah, just hoping everything works out and it if does, then great! Just don't want get my hopes up too much as it could easily fall through between now & then

The whole “Head of The Table” angle writes itself with Rock and Roman. Just getting there with Roman for another year may be difficult. If Brock doesn’t beat him at Mania, I can’t see him losing until this match. Which would make it 2 and a half years without a loss.

Ronda and Becky is just a given. And it’s what both women need honestly. I said it before, I wasn’t a fan of Becky’s title run after she beat Ronda. And the story is there if they want to bring up the fact that Ronda’s shoulder weren’t down at Mania.

Logical thing to aim for but I don't personally have much interest in these matches, and I feel like having this penciled in essentially tells you that there won't be much of any movement at the top of the card for another year.

Rock vs Reign does not need to be for the title for the match to happen.

So you could very well have Drew Mcntyre or Big E take the title off Roman and still do Roman vs Rock at mania
