Speaking of M. night...do we consider Sixth Sense a horror movie :hmm: its borderline for me tbh, more of a drama but either way a great fuckin movie
It's been too long since I've seen it. From what I recall, it could be considered a thriller.

So depends on how hard you draw that distinction.

Phenomena is my all-time favorite movie, not just horror. It helps that it's the inspiration for my ALL TIME favorite Video Game... Clock Tower. :side:

Only seen that film once. But I have the DVD. We should do a watch sometime? Remember it being one of his best.

Am all over this thread!:mark: Great timing too since I went to an open air screening of the British classic The Wicker Man last night. Loved it.

Also for the second year in a row I will be volunteering at Frightfest in London at the end of August. Am expecting lots of free film screenings and gifts:mark: Should have some recommendations for you all when I return.

Here's my decade lists, they are NOT in order, they're just the 5 best horror movies of each decade in whatever order but ones in BOLD are ones I consider top tier

1920s: Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu.....Can't think of more from this decade tbh, might add some later.
1930s: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, King Kong, Freaks, The Invisible Man
1940s: Looking back this was a weak time for the genre imo, more so than I thought and I hadn't seen a lot from this decade. I'll include The Wolf Man for now, but I don't even rate that one super high compared to a lot of others, might need to rewatch it though bc I've only seen it once.
1950s: Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Diabolique, Godzilla....once again I've seen much less than I thought from this decade wow I'm disappointing myself. But honorable mention to Plan 9 From Outer Space 8D
1960s: Psycho, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, Night of the Living Dead, Rosemary's Baby, Wait Until Dark
1970s: Alien, The Exorcist, Dawn of the Dead, Halloween, Deep Red
1980s: The Thing, The Shining, The Fly, The Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street. Honorable Mentions: An American Werewolf in London and Evil Dead II because they're comedy horror which I wasn't really looking to include in this list, but they're fucking great as well.
1990s: Interview with the Vampire, Dracula (1992), Jacob's Ladder, Funny Games, Perfect Blue. Honorable comedy horror mentions: Army of Darkness, Dead Alive, and also an honorable mention to The Sixth Sense bc it's on the bubble for me of being horror.
2000s: Let the Right One In, Saw, 28 Days Later, The Others, REC. Honorable comedy mentions: Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland....also Grindhouse bc it's kinda horror but I'm not sure if I consider it to be personally but it rules either way.
2010s: Get Out, A Quiet Place, Train to Busan, The Conjuring, The Skin I Live In. Honorable mentions: TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL :mark: and also What We Do in the Shadows

As you can see from the ones I bolded, I tend to enjoy psychological horror movies more than supernatural or slasher ones (not saying I don't love those either). Best decades look to be 30s, 60s and 70s just from me making this, which is kinda what I expected. Thought about including more comedy horrors in here since I absolutely love that genre but I did honorable mentions instead, still had to bold Shaun of the Dead though bc I mean it's Shaun of the Dead and definitely Evil Dead II...that one I thought about not even giving an honorable mention and just adding to the top 5 bc I def think it's better than the original. I think I bolded 20 different ones so I guess that's my top 20 but I'm always saying how bad I am at making lists so don't take this too seriously, y'all could easily have me remember some I completely forgot about.

If we're talking comedic horror, Evil Dead II is head and shoulders the best mixture of the two ever put to film. Even more so than Shaun of the Dead.

As much as I love the character of Ash....I don't know, I'm just not into slapstick like I am for a spoof/homage

Yeah I think I'm with Deezy here, I rank them both super high and close to each other but I think I enjoy Shaun of the Dead more..ask me again in a week and I'll probs change my mind but who knows

Difference is Evil Dead II is still a proper horror movie instead of a straight spoof.

To someone who's never watched an Evil Dead movie, it's still proper scary.

Yeah but I'm just judging on how much I enjoy the movies not how much they fit into a genre. I was on the verge of giving Evil Dead II a regular spot on the list where I didn't even consider it for Shaun of the Dead, but I still think Shaun is better

The effects done in Shaun tho was legit.

And the scares were there when needed but also it had scenes like the mom turning that was classic imo.

I'm not saying Evil Dead wasn't a great movie either....the first low budget Evil Dead was a proper horror movie, but the second one totally went 3 stooges.

Personally I thought Evil Dead 2 was even better than the original. They just went with the original's premise and turned it up to eleven to entertaining effect:mark:
