Was watching WrestleMania 29 earlier this week and I couldn't help thinking say if Punk was successful against The Rock at the Royal Rumble 2013 and went on to headline WM how different would not only that 'Mania be but the whole WWE?

Who do you think would have faced 'Taker at the Show?
Would Punk still have left in the end anyway?
How long would both streaks have lasted? (Punk's title reign & 'Takers Undefeated Streak)
Would Cena and Rock still have gone ahead?
One maybe Two booking decision/s at the Royal Rumble completely changed WWE.

Random post I know but sort of crap that goes through my head watching past WWE events. Also when you work in a boring ass job like me you have a lot of time to think.

I'm not even touching this with a ten foot pole since I dislike CM punk a lot and everyone else on the forum seem to love him, but I will say my piece anyway;

As much as I dislike punk, I genuinely think he would have stayed if he had his Wrestlemania main event moment

I'm guessing it would be a triple threat, Rock as the champion vs Cena vs Punk.

Looking at the roster at the time, Punk was really the only one who could face Taker...Maybe Ryback

If Punk got that big main event match than maybe he would have stayed. But who really knows?

He would still be gone. Not main-eventing WrestleMania wasn't his only issue. He was very burnt out. Apparently he was misdiagnosed with a staff infection, i don't necessarily believe that, but that's what he claims.

That depends on a bunch of stuff.
Like how much WWE was offering, shit like that.
But i would think he just wouldn't resign and do other ventures.

I think he’s the kind of guy, especially at that time, who couldn’t be entirely satisfied. So, I think he would’ve left almost no matter what. The only way he would’ve stayed is if he was pushed as the top guy 24/7, clearly above Cena, and has his Mania moment as well as several other huge wins.

Now that I think about it, he might have stayed if he was the one to end the streak, which if there was a guy at the time who should’ve ended the streak, for the push, it was Punk.

He was just done. I mean longest run as WWE champion since Hulk Hogan's first reign, great matches with Undertaker (my main event for that Mania), good match with Lesnar, good Rumble performance...

Even though he lost some big matches, he never faded away and stayed near the top.

He left because he was done and I don't think anything would have changed that.

Punk and Taker should've main evented title or not match of the night. Or they could've done Punk vs Rock vs Cena so you know not twice in a lifetime. I'm not a big fan of how Punk behaved. But I'll give credit he was entertaining

Nah, he and Vince and Hunter were on collision course too often. He would still have left at some point. At best it would have extended his run a bit but I still think he would have walked out at some point.

I think the way WWE is run and who managed it somewhat staled wrestling for him. I think he has even mentioned that himself.

So even if he did stick around, it wouldn't have been much longer and he likely would have gotten into something else anyways. He was better off leaving while he was on top. People will remember him more for that then sticking around and becoming a low-card filler and fading into the black hole with Big Show and many others.

I wish I could have caught his wwe career while it happened. I missed it by over a year. I saw a random segment years ago for a few minutes before I turned it. It had been a while since I watched then and he was this guy talking about how drugs are bad or something. And cena had came out i think...it was probably 10 years or more ago. Smackdown. Wasn't my cup of tea then lol.

Looking back on his career history I'm kicking my younger self for not being interested at the time lol.

For now though, He's in the ufc. His next fight is next month June 9 in chicago. Home crowd. I'm sure the arena will be deafening

and even if he would have main evented Mania 29, he'd still take issue in how much he would have got paid in comparison to Cena and Rock. I think for him it was more of a pro and con list once he felt like leaving. And risking your physical health on a grueling schedule whilst not getting paid as much as you think you're worth must have been the 3 big cons that actually made him walk out. The Mania main event thing was just something from his bucket list that didn't happen but I doubt it would have changed a whole lot about the year afterwards and his departure.

Like the rest already pointed out, he was juts really burnt out and didn't enjoy what he was doing anymore. Whether it be dealing with higher ups in the company or the natural aspect of their touring schedules, he just didn't feel the love for pro wrestling like he did when he started
