Who came up with it? I mean, ECW never had scripted promos and it seemed very natural to me. People like the Rock and Scott Steiner used to deviate from the script and they delivered some of the most hard hitting and intense promos ever.

So, why script promos?

Because its a fake sport? Also not every one is creative/ charismatic as rock and Steiner. Also probably as well to stop people going off into tangents and potentially saying something harmful

If you gave a mic to every man and woman on the roster and told them to improvise, most wouldn't be able to come up with anything, and others may end up crossing the line. Punk was given the chance to go off the script but it could have went terribly wrong. I think John Cena and the Rock are the only two the company trusts enough to go off the script but not entirely off it.

This reminds me of Scott Hall during his feud with Goldberg. Hall comitdd some 92 script infractions according to one source and this invoked such a savage rage in Goldberg that he flew off the handle and ended up severely lacerating his elbow.

Why did Goldberg let Scott Hall make him so mad?

Very few are actually talented enough to not have a script. Punk, rock, cena, Jericho, Owens, stone cold, people like this don’t usually need one. If WWE didn’t give many wrestlers a script or general guideline to follow, I have a feeling a lot of promos would be much much worse.

Perhaps sponsors are involved? Suppose a wrestler must say certain words sort of like a subliminal message? Idk

I've heard many a times where a guy says, "...each and every one of you..." to the people watching

Vince must like that phrase for some insane reason.

I honestly think the performers should be given an "outline"
of the promo expected & be allowed to tell it in their own words.

I also think the WWE should film backstage promos earlier on
the day of broadcast & allow the performers to do two or three
takes each one different from the last. Then simply air the best
one during the actual live show.

No one would know the difference...as long as their clothing
matches during every appearance on the same show.

If a performer struggles with in-ring promos...don't have
them out there doing it...

But then I think to much emphasis is placed on talking &
promos these days...actions speak louder than words.

Why did Goldberg get mad? Because Hall was paid to say something and he actively went against it, putting both him AND Goldberg in potential hot water. It's like if you and I are chefs and the health inspector is at our restaurants, you would be pissed that I spit in someone's food, since I'm screwing things up for both of us

I agree with the outline mentality. Look at the New Day and Usos, apparently they're given outlines, and they have some of the best promos in WWE. The wrestlers are more invested in themselves than the writers, so they'll always do the best they can

I think they should get the chance to make do with an outline. If they can't do it give them scripts.

For the really good ones don't bother with an outline.
