Shamar Bailey defeated Ryan McGillivray in typical Bailey fashion, utilizing his base wrestling skills to smother McGillivray and control him for the entire fight. Bailey won via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

The first round was all Bailey as he landed the better shots on the feet and completed a few takedowns. McGillivray was able to use a D'Arce choke attempt from the bottom to escape to his feet, but Bailey made him pay with a bevy of knees to the dome. McGillivray's backpedaling and countering attempts did not pay off as Bailey actually landed the better power shots in the round.

The second was no different with the exception of far less striking. Shamar's initial takedown lasted for the entire round, dominating McGillivray with wrestling and ground and pound. McGillivray attempted to keep Shamar's posture down in order to put up a fight in the grappling department, but Shamar shook off any attempts and controlled the round.

McGillivray was much more dangerous in the third, but badly timed kicks allowed Shamar to take him down and control him for a majority of the round. Shamar's continued strategy of controlling his opposition without doing a massive amount of damage gained some boos as the final horn sounded.

Bailey was one of the favorites on this season's The Ultimate Fighter, being selected first by Team dos Santos and second overall. He faced off against Nordin Asrih in the preliminary round, defeating him via unanimous decision with smothering wrestling. In the quarterfinals, he lost via unanimous decision to Chris Cope. Bailey was by far one of the most experienced fighters on the show with nearly 15 fights under his belt. He also fought under Strikeforce and the M-1 banner.

McGillivray entered the contest with a record of 11-4-1. He was the second pick by Junior dos Santos during this season's The Ultimate Fighter, defeating Lesnar's number one pick, Len Bentley, in the preliminary round. In the quarterfinals, McGillivray was knocked out by eventual finalist Tony Ferguson. Outside of the show, McGillivray fought extensively in the Edmonton, Alberta regional scene.
