Brock Lesnar vs Junior dos Santos was originally supposed to headline this card which takes place on June 11th at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver British Columbia.
When Lesnar's diverticulitis flared up and prevented him from training, former heavyweight title challenger Shane Carwin stepped up to face dos Santos. The fight is expected to be a title-shot eliminator with the winner welcoming UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez back from rehab where he's been recovering from surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.
Lesnar had surgery last Friday, which according to UFC bossman Dana White, removed 12 inches from his colon. White said he hopes Lesnar will return to action early next year.
The full UFC 131 card also includes top ranked middleweights Demian Maia vs Mark Munoz, featherweight contenders Kenny Florian vs Diego Nunes, heavyweight newcomers Dave Herman vs Jon Olav Einemo and lightweights Donald Cerrone vs Vagner Rocha.
Spike TV will broadcast Sam Stout vs Yves Edwards and Jesse Bongfeldt vs Chris Weidman.
