Saudi Arabia Bans Domestic Violence Against Women

Saudi Arabia's cabinet has passed a ban on domestic violence and other forms of abuse against women for the first time in the Kingdom's history.

The cabinet approved the ban on physical or sexual violence earlier this week, which applies both at home or within the work place.

The legislation makes domestic violence a punishable crime for the first time. It also provides treatment and shelter for victims of abuse and holds law enforcement agencies accountable for investigating and prosecuting allegations of abuse.

The ban includes penalties of a maximum 12 month jail sentence and fines of up to $13,000.

Only a hundred years behind but still positive news though there's probably going to be some backlash from some of the radical branches of Islam in the coming months from this. They still have to go a long, long ways before woman get any form of equality, but it's at least some step in the right direction.

Hard to believe there's still parts of the world where women are treated worse than animals. Just a hard thing to fathom because its hate for no reason. Every person came from a women, and without women the human race would die off really really quick. This is good news though, and I hope it leads to better women rights in Saudi Arabia and the middle east as a whole.

Saudi'a are not acting like ECW with their women out there, citizens are not evil, the people in charge are close minded, doesn't reflect on the society.

It is a small step forward but they still have so far to go. It is incredible that in 2013 this was still legal but they are changing for the better and things should continue to improve in the coming decades there. As deezy mentioned the people there for the most part are fine, the kingdom don't want to change too much too soon as they think that it is a sign of weakness. Gradual change will occur.
