We all know TNA's main problem right now, is how predictable the run ins are. It seems that in every main event, people (at least I am) are worried about someone running down the isle, and interfering in the match. It doesn't even need to be a main event on a PPV, it happens all the time. The question is why? Who benefits from it? And why do it? I think I may have the answer to that question.
First, run ins are commonly used to screw someone over. Most of the time they are used as a tool to turn someone heel or face, and they are also used to start up new fueds and storylines. Run ins will always happen, it doesn't matter what promotion we're talking about, it is a common part of pro wrestling that is utilized when RIGHT. TNA however, has overused run ins and it has hurt the product. I'll be honest, the amount of run ins that we see on iMPACT! has definitely declined, but we still got one at Bound For Glory for this reason:
Lets think about this for a second, unpredictability. Its a great way to get your product over. It can also help bring ratings up, as people tune in just to see what happens next. TNA iMPACT! can't be unpredictable, because the show is taped. I guarantee you that half the audience probably reads spoilers before the show, just to see if its worth watching. Here is my theory to this whole run in situation. I think TNA books run ins on PPVs, and the main events on PPV, because of a simple reason. Its unpredictable. People don't see it coming, and it has a much bigger impact than it would if people knew it was happening because of reading spoilers for the TV show. So my point is, I think they book run ins on PPV because they are live so people don't know what to expect. That way when someone does run down, it will be more shocking. Since TNA tapes iMPACT! they have decreased the amount of run ins on that show, but the ones on PPV have pretty much stayed the same. Why? Because of what I said before.
So, the solution. What is the solution? To me, its easy, make iMPACT! live each and every week. That way when they do want to book run ins, they will be able to do it on TV instead of on PPV. The whole point of a PPV match is to blow off a feud, to end it. TNA seems to be stuck in a problem where they use a blow off match just to start another feud. That formula doesn't work imo, and it hurts the product. So if iMPACT! does go live, maybe we'll see them spread out the amount of run ins and try to keep them on TV, that way we get that blow off match on PPV without any interference or bullshit.
So, what do you guys think? Am I right about any of this?
