I think that these traditional 5-man matches would be a great way to start feuds. Just have one of the guys eliminate another by holding the ropes or something, and then they start fighting on the outside. They can start a feud like that.

I don't like how these matches are now used to continue feuds. I think it's kind of pointless. Why don't you just split the teams up and have them go at it in their own match. I like how Lesnar/Angle was done where one of them had all the monster heels and the other had all the good guys, and how they revealed the team one by one.

Thoughts?

Ya, kinda like how some feuds start out of the royal rumble, if one guy eliminates another.
Although, I liked it when it is used to continue a feud, but seeing as there is more than one match, you're right, they should use one to create new feuds.

Pretty sure that's happened from time to time over the years.

Problem is how ya gonna create interest in the matches when it's just 5 randoms vs another... You need the existing heat to do this (unless of course we're talking MAJOR dream-team line-ups where fans would be into any of the guys clashing cos they're all that good).

This has been going on from day one of SSeries.

Why don't you just split the teams up and have them go at it in their own match.

I don't understand this part.... Wouldn't this effectively result in 10 1-on-1 matches replacing the 5-on-5 team action which defines SSeries to start with?

I like how Lesnar/Angle was done where one of them had all the monster heels and the other had all the good guys, and how they revealed the team one by one.

That was cool... For a change.... But the reality of it is that they need to announce the card in order to promote the event effectively.

One thing I did think was cool that never got revisited was when they did the 'Ultimate Survivor' match in 1990... Where all the surviving heels and faces respectively faced off in one final elimination match in the ME and you were left with, as the title suggests, the ultimate survivors.

I liked when the matches actually meant something, like Evolution + Edge/Snitsky vs. Team Orton/Maven/Jericho/and that other guy. And Raw vs. SD with Undertaker returning at the end for Orton, that was bad ass. I say for Raw, have a huge match involving Priceless and Orton in some way, with Orton being the last man standing/survivor again.

Yeah, I think the Orton/Priceless scenario bodes VERY well for SS this year - Really looking forward to it!

^^^So how does that stop Orton/Priceless having a SS elimination match?

i dont think they'll have THREE surivor series elimination matches....one for raw and one for SD is enough. and who exactly would be facing each other?

If you take HHH, Koslov, Show & Taker out of the equation (and Hardy, should they make it a triple threat for the WWE title) I think SD will truggle to come up with anything TBH....

We'll see, I guess...

As for who COULD face a Team Orton..... Punk & Kofi + 2.

It happens every now and then but like Airfixx said, you can't have five randoms face each other. In order for this to happen there needs to be a reason the people are facing each other so maybe a RAW vs SmackDown match or Dream Tram etc. there needs to be a reason.

^^^Why not? Imagine Rey choosing a bunch of cruisers. Maybe introduce a few new high flyers into WWE, then have somebody pick 5 big guys. It'll be just like David Vs Goliath, don't you think it'll be rather interestin?

Yeah, that would be a good way to set up a match, but Rey would have to have SOME sort of feud with the captain of the other team already.

Personally, I love the SS matches as it gives the lesser seen people a chance to be on PPV. But they've kind of lost meaning other than continuing the feud. All of the matches, since they are so "big" should have a reward stipulation around them. Like the previously mentioned HHH, Batista, edge, Snitsky vs. Orton Jericho, Maven, and the one of which we do not speak. The winners got to be GM for a day. So, they should appear to be giving the wrestlers some sort of enticement to be apart of that match. If you think about from a kayfabe point of view, you have to rely on someone else in a tag match and the more people there are, there more chances for mistakes there are, so why would someone want to rely on someone else just for a win when they could just have a singles match and rely on themselves.
