Ricardo dos Santos, a popular Brazilian surfer who famously knocked 11-time world champion Kelly Slater out of an event in 2012, died Tuesday from gunshot wounds sustained the day before in an altercation near his home in Guarda do Embau, Brazil.
Dos Santos, 24, had confronted some men openly using drugs and playing loud music near a beach access and asked them to leave, and as the men were leaving one of them turned around and shot Dos Santos, according Surfer magazine and other reports.
