They began with Eddie Guerrero and Chyna vs. Val Venis and Trish Stratus back in 2000. There were more of them over the years and then, they were sensationalised by John Cena and Nikki Bella in 2017. Now, in 2018, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella vs. The Miz continues the trend in grand style. Now the women have had their revolution, why not begin the mixed tag team revolution? What is it about two men that has gotten people riled up for so many years anyway? What do two members of the same gender do to make the viewing pleasure so very good?

I´ll tell you what... an obviously impressive crock. It´s so easy to admire two men for their strength and toughness, but after checking out the mixed gender matches of yesterday, seeing the developing feud between the Danielsons and the Miz, I gotta say that the future of tag team wrestling is mixed gender competition. It would offer such a more balanced perspective of men and women. Speed and strength would both become part of the mix and we´d get to see quickness and brawn meld into one big, tasty stew.

Hell, why not introduce mixed gender tag team titles? I bet you anything that would greaqtly improve WWE. It´d certainly be a lot more exciting and interesting to see both men and women showcase their talents. WWE make way for the new mixed tag teams, cos they could set the world of wrestling on fire.

In the words of Pastor Martin Seempa: they eat the poo poo

"Speed and strength" can both be put on display solely with male performers. We have an entire roster dedicated to speed - 205 Live - and the vast majority of women currently employed by WWE can't outmatch the men in strength whatsoever. WWE doesn't like women getting hit by men, and will not allow women to take any serious bumps from men. This is a big issue since it places a limit on what can be done during the matches, effectively taking out the double team moves that are staples of tag team wrestling. That aside, one person making a tag results in a tag for the other person as well. If Bryan tags Brie, then Maryse and Brie both become the legal competitors. I hate this and prefer the person that makes a tag getting switched out for the person whom they tag in.

Hell, why not introduce mixed gender tag team titles?
There are two women's divisions on the main roster. Introducing mixed gender tag team titles would take women out of the singles title picture, reducing the already minuscule pool of contenders significantly. WWE doesn't have the manpower...err, womenpower...to have a thriving women's division on RAW and Smackdown while keeping together a competent mixed tag division.

It´d certainly be a lot more exciting and interesting to see both men and women showcase their talents.
They already do that.

WWE held a mixed tag tournament called the "Mixed Match Challenge" that I don't see anyone talk about anymore. If it really was going to set the world of wrestling on fire, one would think that tournament would have gotten the job done.

The only way mixed gender matches will work within WWE is if the men can't touch the women. So it would basically be a one on one match with two women or two men while the opposite sex hangs out behind the ropes. People would quickly lose interest in this.

A perfect example:
"Mixed Match Challenge" that I don't see anyone talk about anymore.

That was because it meant nothing. Add storylines, stakes and intrigue then it will work.

I think mixed tag titles is a mighty fine idea. Great way to integrate woman and men. WWE have enough talent for it to work. But I think people are reluctant towards the idea of more titles.

Not all titles need to be defended every month and featured every week. 30 day rule is so dumb. Less title matches and less title changes. If we keep going at this rate Slater will become a grand slam champion.

Meh I wouldn't be interested. The issue isn't the amount of titles, it is how they are being used, you are right in that sense... But we are expected to be getting women's tag belts soon so adding another pair of belts on top of those would be overkill. You know how booking has been for the last 4 years... it would just make things worse.

The nature of a mixed tag match is of course different to a normal tag match. But I think that is an advantage. Some tag team tactics and strategies still apply in a mixed gender tag match. It isn't two singles matches rotating.

I think if you have good storylines and build relationships with the men and the woman then it could get people interested. All you need is a bit of inring and booking innovation.

The idea will probably run out of steam though

The titles being defended every week, the titles changing hands all the time, the automatic rematch clause and that the wrestlers never sell there loses are the reasons why titles mean nothing.

How will a title reign be impressive if someone's champion for a long time yet defends it once in a blue moon? I'd rather not add titles if they're going to be disregarded like that, especially with the team members being on RAW or Smackdown frequently doing other things. Introducing these titles then pushing them behind everything else will make them feel less important, and making it feel less important won't make it more intriguing.

WWE have enough talent for it to work.
Only if the titles are brushed aside like you propose.

Great way to integrate woman and men.
Why is that necessary?

One major problem.. Seeing as they can't properly book what they have right now, it would likely get burned out and they will just pretend it never happened.

Adding more cows to the farm will just cause more crap in the fields.

I do get the appeal with having mixed tag teams but the way WWE handles things anymore, it just won't work.

How are any boxing or MMA world title reigns impressive? Having a title be defended over and over again makes it less special. If Roman defends he's title every week, then the climb for number one contendership means nothing. The champion should wrestle less then the challengers. WWE should have an emphasis on climbing for title matches instead of having 10 titles be defended on a ppv every month. The 30 day rule is dumb as the champion feels the same as their challengers.
Why is that necessary?
Cuz why not? Characters interacting with other characters make characters and stories healthier. Intergrating divisions and feuds is what WWE struggle with. So yeah it's pretty necessary. Imagine if multiple storylines in a TV show weren't connected with each other in anyway. That would suck. So connecting lines and tying up threads makes for better TV. In the attitude era storylines crossed all the time. It doesn't happen as much, so further intergrating divisions such as the men's and woman's is a good step.

That's a bad analogy. More crap in the field is a good thing.

They're real. I expect different things out of wrestling.

If Roman defends he's title every week, then the climb for number one contendership means nothing.
I'm content with monthly defenses as Roman will be on TV each week doing stuff regardless if his title is on the line during that week. Having the proposed mixed tag titles be put in the background would have the champs either not be featured frequently or be featured frequently doing things that have nothing to do with their titles. What does it say about being tag champ if you spend most of your time fighting to get a shot at one of the singles titles instead of defending the titles you already hold?

Men make up the majority of the roster and can blend stories together without involving women. Women do not need to be integrated with the men in order to accomplish that.

Different. But the nature around the prestige around a title is pretty much the same thing.

If you are a champion you defend your championship. If you are a champion you don't have to spend your time fighting for a championship, unless you want to hold more than one championship.

My point is, WWE should have a larger emphasis on the climb to title contention instead of having loads of title matches all the time. That will make title matches mean something as they are not being booked willy nilly and the contender has had a journey to the title match. I think that would make the hierarchy of WWE alot better.

I mean it doesn't have to be to the extreme. But I think that they could do more to make title matches mean more. I just think it's far too easy to become a champion in WWE and that just makes everything shitty. A championship in WWE isn't a championship. It's a prop.
Men make up the majority of the roster and can blend stories together without involving women. Women do not need to be integrated with the men in order to accomplish that.
They do if you want the woman's division to feel part of the cohesive weekly tv show.

I agree wholeheartedly with that.
