1996 was a year in which a number of people got used badly. I don't know why and I would really like to.

Let's start with Ron Simmons. When he first came to WWE as Roman gladiatoreasque Farooq Asad, until the NOD, he was like a rampaging bull. He had a very fast, hard hitting style, he performed high impact moves like the Samoan drop off the second turnbuckle among others.

Why did his wrestling style mellow out a lot when he became the leader of the NOD? Was it some kinda injury that made him change his wrestling style, or was it something else at work?

Age? Ron Simmons was only 37 at the time and he was in phenomenal shape. I saw no signs that he was under duress.

Character change? you mean wwe watered him down to suit his new role?
Wresters change their wrestling to suit their character.

37 years old is entering into his twighlight years of his career. So I'm not surprised that he would do less risky moves as he enters into his 40's. Also as a wresters you would aim to do less moves as possible but still be over. That's the aim.

Back then retirement was generally around 40 hell. His was before WWF used part timers much and protected legends into their 40's and 50's. Its your body clock, Cena for example is around 40 and is winding down. Wrestling after 45 full time is rare still even now.

Back then you would not get a million dollars or more for a part time contract, hell Michaels was a workhorse on around 750k IIRC. And Ron Simmons was a mid carder.
