Does Seth Rollins Need the Curb Stomp?

According to WWE sources, the company will be banning Seth Rollins from using the curb stomp finishing move. WWE’s feeling about the move, which the WWE World Heavyweight Champion uses as his finisher, is that it’s too much of a direct liability and risk for a head injury. All of sports is trying to be more proactive when it comes to preventing head injuries and concussions, and this is the reason for WWE banning the curb stomp.

WWE reportedly doesn’t want its top star to be doing that move every night and they also don’t want to be showing it in past clips or videos anymore. This is why last week on RAW when Rollins came out, the video which played during his entrance was primarily just graphics of his name. The normal entrance video for Rollins features a compilation of clips, several of which are him performing the curb stomp.

Removing the Curb Stomp from WWE champ Seth Rollins' toolbox hurts him.

Suddenly, he is without a finisher that accentuated the opportunistic and predatory sides of his character. It's a thriller of a move—a unique and memorable way to put his foes away. It appears he will have to find something else that accomplishes all of that.

On Monday's Raw, Rollins didn't beat Dolph Ziggler by crashing down on the back of his head as he has done so often in the past. Instead, Rollins whipped out a new signature attack, a variation on the DDT.

The move is a poor replacement for the Curb Stomp. It looks like a hundred other guys' big move. It's like replacing a tomahawk jam with a layup.

Then why did he make the switch? It's not quite clear yet. Rumors that WWE have banned Rollins' move have been buzzing on the Internet, but according to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc), the move isn't banned exactly. Rollins will reportedly be using a new finisher instead.

It's hard to imagine that he would just switch gears like that on his own accord. One has to think that this is a WWE-directed move presumably due to safety concerns.

The move involves a boot colliding with a head and a head meeting the mat. And with concussion awareness at an all-time high, wrestling has had to adapt to make the business safer.

If that's the impetus for the change, though, then why single out the Curb Stomp? There are a litany of other dangerous moves performed in WWE rings today, such as Dolph Ziggler's DDT or superkick.

In my personal opinion Seth Rollins is as easily identifiable by his Curb Stomp as Randy Orton is by his RKO or Shawn Michaels is by the Sweet Chin Music. His brand just wouldn't be the same.

It takes away his single GREATEST WEAPON OUT OF HIS ARSENAL, the ability to strike at a moments notice. Imagine Stone Cold Steve Austin being told he could no longer use the Stunner; would a Cobra Clutch to Vince McMahon have the same impact? What are your thoughts on this? After-all he didn't use it prior to WWE and we'll all just remember the Curb Stomp the way we remember how Orton used to use a Punt to finish off opponents, or do you think it's become too much of his WWE brand to recover?

I am really against getting rid of the Curb Stomp. The Curb Stomp is up there with the RKO as my favourite finisher and I personally think that the finisher perfect sums up Seth Rollins. The Curb Stomp is a opportunist finisher which sums up exactly what Seth Rollins is, it just goes with his character brilliantly.

Take a look at Wrestlemania for an example, imagine if Rollins had to use the Sethwalker after the Cash in. It just wouldn't have looked half as good, the way he Curb stomped Reigns after the Spear was absolutely brilliant.

I think it would be a huge mistake for them to stop Rollins using the curb stomp from a fan point of view. However, I do not know how dangerous it actually is as a move. It could potentially injure people but I don't believe it has yet (correct me if I am wrong).

It's definitely a bad idea for Rollins image as the curb stomp was his identity and a great finisher but obviously safety is the number 1 priority so if it truly is dangerous then I can't be against banning it.

Seth Rollins is one of the best things going today. The Curb Stomp is great, and him being forced to drop it is simply ludicrous. Concussions are bound to happen, even if they drop it.

Rollins is a heel. This "ban" of the curb stomp is so he can tease it from time to time but not deliver, which serves to piss off fans even more. Cesaro did the same thing with the giant swing for awhile, sans the "ban" of course.

I wouldn't say he "needs" it, he can always find another finisher. The problem is the one chosen to replace it sucks.
