Found this on DVD recently and decided it's time to check this out, haven't seen it since I bought it on PPV nine years ago.

Joey Styles is introduced by Stpehen DeAngelis I think, and he gets a "Joey" chant and looks like he is about to cry :eyebrow: he introduces Mick Foley and opening TNN video package starts.

The first match of the event was Lance Storm versus Lionheart Chris Jericho. Storm was accompanied to the ring by Dawn Marie who gets the always classy "She's a crackwhore" chant and appears to be Storms last match before retirement or as we find out his last match in WWE. During the match, a "Chris Candido" chant broke out, a reference to the recently deceased wrestler who was a tag team partner of Lance Storm in ECW, Lance Storm obliges the chant by doing Candido's signature delayed vertical suplex, which ofcourse this smart crowd didn't notice. Jericho locked in the Walls Of Jericho on Storm, but Marie jumped on the ring apron and distracted the referee. Jason and Justin Credible interfered, with Credible hitting Jericho with a Kendo Stick or since it's ECW Singapore Cane. Storm got the pinfall on Jericho for the victory. Always found it funny how this ECW crowd was supposed to know and appreciate actual professional wrestling but the "We want hartdcore" chants make me think otherwise.

A tribute video played next, highlighting the wrestlers from ECW that had died between the promotion's end in 2001 and One Night Stand, outside of The Shiek, it's easy to point out what a meat grinder this company turned out to be.

A 3way dance was next, with Tajiri facing Little Guido and Super Crazy. Tajiri is escorted by Sinister Minister and Mikey Whipwreck, two guys I never liked because they were goofy on ECW on TNN, but there they were after or before every commercial break. and Guido was accompanied by his fellow FBI members. Typical spotfest, with highlights inbcluding a balcony moonsault from Super Crazy, a Whipper Snapper(Stunner) from the top rope to Guido, which took him out of the match. Tajiri/Crazy highlights incude a "You fucked up" chant inspired by Crazy. And killed the finish because the crowd totally took the focus from it.

Next came singles Luchador action, as Psychosis faced Smackdown! superstar and ECW Original Rey Mysterio or Rey Misterio jr. Crowd expected both guys to be 20 years old and boo the shit out of Psychosis before he almost kills Misterio with a top rope guillotine leg drop onto the guardrail, Rey receipts Psychosis with a dive into the crowd. Crowd seemed so stuck in the past, they booed the 619. I guess Rey should've left that out and just went for the West Coast Pop.

After the match, the Smackdown crusaders enters Kurt Angle, JBL with Orlando Jordan, Carlito and Matt Morgan too. This is where I discovered something great, JBL is mic'd up and this is where this shows gets more interesting for me. The crowd chanted, "You Suck Dick" and "Fuck You Smackdown!" as they go to their seats. Can hear JBL instruct people to not play the crowd as the video package airs, and says this place is better than a Bingo hall and Orlando Jordan asks who is someone. JBL replies, Shane Douglas and said he looks tall because he is standing by Taz :D.

Professional creep Joel Gertner Tries to interview the invaders, but Angle takes the mic and JBL pushes him to the ground. JBL and Angle cut a promo, with the crowd continuing to chant, "You Suck Dick", to which Angle confirms with "Your MOTHER taught me how".:lmao Angle stated, "The last time I was at an ECW event I walked out halfway through because it sucked". The crowd continued to chant, "Shut the Fuck Up", while JBL spoke about how he sold out MSG and ECW can barely sell out this place and that bingo hall.

RVD's music hits, he is with Bill Alfonso, with RVD stating it had nothing to do with Smackdown. RVD says that WWE deserved no credit, that the interview was a shoot with no scripts, and that missing One Night Stand was worse than missing Wrestlemania, ofcourse this sounds all great when you hear it then, but with JBL mic'd up, it totally takes the piss out of this.:mark:

The promo was interrupted when Rhino/Rhyno hit Van Dam with a Gore. Lights go out and Sabu appears and JBL says "boy the Iron Shiek lost weight" "and this is going to be a technical masterpiece", Sabu goes for a springboard dive to the outside, Angle tries a "You fucked up" chant. JBL asks "Do they have a hundred count?" as the two seem to be outside for awhile. Rhino gets the advantage and goes for a running facewash as JBL and Orlando point out he missed him completely. Van Dam hit a Van Daminator on Rhino before Sabu hit the Arabian Skullcrusher on Rhino through the table for the victory. Who cares about the match, because as soon as Sabu uses the chair the first time JBL says "that takes talent" every time. And adds the final gem of "When you have the athletic ability of a cross eyed penguin you have to do that, we don't have to do that".:DAMN:

The Raw crusaders enter with Bischoff getting Nuclear heat, JBL is the first one to point out that Edge didn't "screw" Matt, he screwed Lita.

Benoit versus Guerrero up next, which this crowd appreciates by chanting "Fuck You Bischoff", "You Screwed Matt", "Lita's Got Herpes" and "I Fucked Lita". Benoit makes Guerrero tap out with the Crippler Crossface. JBL points out that the crowd isn't appreciating a helluva match, and would rather just do their little chants. Eddie looked pissed after the match, can't say I blame him. JBL says the amount of homosexual energy in this room is astounding, which is funny because he is sitting next to Orlando.

After the Benoit versus Guerrero match was over, Gertner again tried to interview the crusaders and begged Bischoff for a job. He was not successful, and Bischoff poured his drink over Gertner, saying, "ECW Sucks". JBL also calls Gertner the least heterosexual man he has ever enountered.....Which is hilarious saying this infront of Orlando.

Mike Awesome versus Masato Tanaka followed, and rips Awesome for leaving ECW, sounds like Foley doesn't like the burial of Awesome during this. At one point, after Awesome hits a suicide dive, Styles says, "And it's a shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life." Awesome won the match after powerbombing Tanaka through a table on the outside of the ring and followed it with a Suicide Dive, getting the pinfall. JBL highlights include "fat guy flying" as Awesome does that suicide dive also saying he has the glide path of a sofa, calling Tanaka his doorman, getting the rest of the boys to talk about his "doorman". "I sold out the Garden and these guys are selling out Home Depot with how many tables they broke". Bringing up his cup of coffee in WWE, bringing up his 70s guy character, talks about how he doesn't suck, he was never that good....Fucking JBL you are a wrestling god :TI:

Heyman comes out next, thanks some people and does his usual spin on what ECW was, tries to shoot, but his comments are very weak with his highlights calling Bischoff a a bitch and telling JBL he got his title because Triple H didn't want to work Tuesdays 8D weak Paul.....Weak. JBL went better "Thank you Paul? Thank him for what? He's got a skullet, lives with his mama, he's a chronic liar andd he can't balance a checkbook and he drove a company into the ground....Genius, absolute genius".

The Dudley Boyz then faced Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman in the main event. JBL and the rest of the WWE crew laugh their asses off because this is the mainevent. :lmao Only hear JBL during Dreamers entrance, because WWE edited out Dudleyz and Sandmans entrance themes, Sandman without Metallica is underwhelming.

As the match was about to begin, the bwo entered the ring as drunk JBL goes off on Meanie, which could've been used as evidence if he didn't settle with WWE. They attack Sandman and Dreamer, Kid Kash runs in, but doesn't really as he gets in the ring and takes a shit bump over the ropes. Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney enter now, and JBL laughs his ass off as he hears the people chant "Balls". JBL asks if anyone in that ring ever hear of a diet? Asks who those fatties were in the ring, saud he knew Bubba, knew Tommy, even knew Sandman, didn't know any of the other fat guys.

Match starts, they hit each other with shit, Dreamer does a massive blade job as Bubba puts a cheese grader to his head, but so obviously goes the other way, you just see the cut path before the blood flows from Dreamers forehead, this is why you blade after the hit. Jesus Tommy, should've known better than that. Bubba goes for a senton splash on Dreamer, JBL calls for Dreamer to move, said that was obvious.

They all seesaw for a while, typical brawl shit. Bubba gets a frogsplash on Sandman, a two count and cane shenanigans, figure fours, interrupted by the Impact Players, JBL buries Lance Storm, calling him "the most boring man in the history of boring" "Lance Storm couldn't fill an arena, if you gave away free beer with free tickets"

Francine comes in, JBL asks "Who's the hoe?" Beulah makes the save on Dreamer, catfight spot, and double DDTs as Beulah gives the absolute worst DDT in the history of DDTs. Jake the snake is rolling over in his grave and he's not even dead. Bubba hits cane shots to Dreamer and Sandman, gets the tables and Dvon powerbombs Sandman through it. 3D to Dreamer and the get another table, Spike comes out with lighter fluid, put Dreamer through a flaming table, Orlando says "Tommy Dreamer was a flamer" :Mwaha:

Austin comes into the next segment, no more JBL mic'd up, WWE guys face off against the ECW guys and I can't help but notice how even Coach looks bigger than the ECW wrestlers. WWE crew putting over the ECW guys just shows how much of a professional Vince McMahon is, because he could've easily buried that brand right then and there. He had nothing to gain from his own contracted talent taking an ass whooping from a bunch of out of work nobodies like Johnny Swinger and CW Anderson. :WHAT:

Bischoff gets buried on commentary by Styles, talking about how he was the worst comentator ever and didn't answer any calls from Bischoff, one of those claims is bullshit because Joey Styles was already signed on to do commentary for Bischoffs group when they were all but guaranteed the WCW property.

Bischoff takes a bunch of bumps from the Dudleys, Benoit and Rey. Guessing Austin called the guys who he knew, and didn't know who the hell anyone else was in that ring :hhh4:

My analysis, well nostalgia can go two ways. one is that it brings out special feelings or feelings of regret. And aside from New Jack, who wasn't on this show. I don't look back fondly on the memory of ECW. I just remember a company that hotshotted the business so fast that it almost burned it out. Only reason I recommend this would be for JBL's comments through most of this.

I enjoyed your review, but can't help thinking that you only did it as a chance to bash ECW and its fans:heyman:
I guess you will be doing an old TNA show next. Can I make a request?:foley:

Also, that Heyman joke was gold!

real fun read I forgot how on money JBL was during this show, i felt you kinda skipped over the awesomeness that was the Awesome/Tanaka match. Also you gotta so one night stand II before getting to any TNA shows.

Didn't think the second one night stand was that good, certainly the first one was far better for me.

Yes, because I'm a WWE homer right? Because I've never said a bad thing about WWE right?

Also, ECW does deserve criticism, we shouldn't look back with rosy glasses and act like they never did anything majorly stupid and act like their fans were this mythical mix of educated and enthusiastic fans who appreciated everything the performers did for them because they weren't. They were the same bunch of losers who go on Jim Ross's twitter and tell him that he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to wrestling.

If I was to take a look at One Night Stand 2, best assured it's a puff piece now.

You do know I was joking right? Well mostly...

I'm not a big fan of ECW either, but One Night Stand was maybe one of the best PPV's of the last ten years. There were still good things about the promotion, and it was healthy for wrestling in the 90's to have a third company.

Look forward to those TNA reviews!
