as a heel.

Michael Cole's heel announcer gimmick was supposed to officially end at WrestleMania 28. His new role is to be an "edgy" character who still respects John Laurinaitis, one of WWE's top heels. A recent sign of Cole retreating from being an annoying heel and shifting to a more neutral role was that he was sympathetic towards John Cena during his feud with Brock Lesnar.

About time.

Not sure how he can move on though he's so hated.

I knew something was different. His announcing at Extreme Rules was probably the best a WWE event has been called in a couple years, JR even said so. I've been saying that since the PPV, so this news coming out is no surprise for me, it was actually a pretty sudden change. So far, I'm loving it.

Good it needed to end because an announcer should not be overshadowing the talent and burying them in the process was just annoying as fuck.

I had been saying during the live threads that the team had been less bitchy with each other which is really great I mean even if they still aren't talking about wrestling(bulldog ever ten second though) too much least it's not constant bitching.

I have noticed this as well and he was actually critical of Johnny at the end of Raw, which never would have happened before.

He's definately a lot more tolerable now but also has that same contradictory heel about him. This is how he should be.

It is about time they dropped that character. It was hurting the product when Cole was being that over the top heel when he was overshadowing and burying the talent in the ring. Much better idea to use him as a normal announcer that has a slight heel edge.

I've noticed Cole has been a good commentator as of late, nobody seems to complain which is a good thing.

It's gonna take me a long time to get over my hate towards this guy, but this is the first step. Glad to read that they're moving on from that character... but if the WWE think Cole's burying of talent is the reason why some can't get over, they're kidding themselves.

It's really about time they changed his character. He was very annoying and just buried talent. When Lawler was a "heel" announcer, he did the the total opposite of what Cole did. How could you really take Daniel Bryan seriously, when Cole put him down every chance he got.

As long as they remain consistant then it could be a good thing.

I would much rather have commmentators who talk about the matches instead of telling me stories.

I hate announcers who project their values into their commentary. Describe the match, not your philosophy.

Thank god the Michael Cole heel experiment is over, because at times i was almost forced the use the mute button.

This is terrible.

He was the best character the WWE had in years, and they've whitewashed him into another generic announcer like Josh Matthews.

Horrible, horrible decision.
