Ched Evans is a football (soccer) player and convicted rapist (he maintains he is innocent). He has recently been released from prison where he served 2 years of a 5 year sentence. There is lots of talk regarding whether or not he should be allowed to return to playing football.

Do you think he should be allowed to return to playing football?

Is football his profession? Yes. Then he should be allowed to return to it. He's done his his time, that means he doesn't get outlawed from every job under the sun too, people are allowed to redeem themselves.

The dilemma lies with the football teams who want to employ him. Do they want to hurt their image and anger their fanbase? Is he good enough to warrant the media attention this will undoubtably draw?

Yep, LB has this one pretty much figured out. Nobody should prevent him from returning to football, but I'd be surprised if a team signed him, at least in the near future. I was just reading up on his case (either I couldn't remember or legit hadn't heard about it before) and it seems there's a pretty slippery slope in regards to his guilt/innocence in the matter. I also read where a teammate of his had sex with the same woman on the same night but wasn't convicted? Can someone perhaps shed a little more light as to how one guy gets booked but the other doesn't in this situation?

Supposedly (I am not 100% clear on this)

Clayton McDonald (the other guy involved) had consensual sex with her even though they were both drunk, Ched Evans than basically got the hotel porter to give him a room key, walked in and had sex with her after McDonald left.

It's a very confusing story.

Just an update on the situation.

He is now training with Sheffield United, this has led to three patrons of the club quitting and also their main sponsor threatening to pull out. Is one player really worth this much hassle?
