Alberto Del Rio Gets New MMA Gig

It appears former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron will be entering the world of MMA yet again, this time as an announcer.

MMAFighting reports that UFC co-founder Campbell McLaren announced that the Combate Americas show he ran last year will now become a monthly event on NBC Universo.

The program, which is still looking to get an English-language distributor, will air Thursdays at 11 PM eastern starting September 17. The first show features UFC veteran Ramiro Hernandez in the main event.

McLaren announced Patron will be helping out with commentary duties on the program. Patron, formerly known as Alberto Del Rio, competed in MMA for years, and is even a veteran of PRIDE FC where he competed as Dos Caras Jr.

Patron has been made several offers to fight again, but has opted to turn them down. Earlier this year, former WCW Champion Goldberg stated that he'd been offered a fight with Patron, something Patron denied.
