Here’s my theory is that he was supposed to be the one to dethrone Gunther at Mania but him and Jimmy wanted to do the Brother v Brother thing instead. So Sami got his run.

My thoughts on the Jey/Jimmy match and build are well known

It was heatless cuz Jey was winning all the time and Jimmy was a pin eating geek.

Well I think a lot of Jey fans feel differently about that assessment. Which is likely where that rikishi passion stems from. He's just way too extreme with it lol. I do think he doesn't fit what hunter values as a world champ. I just think a lot of people will disagree with those values.

Like One argument would be jey is more over and a bigger draw than Gunther despite being much weaker in ring n presence.
