In the most respectful way, I look at Ethan Page as champion in NXT 2.0 as the low rent version of Bobby Roode as champion in NXT Black & Gold. Similar workers, similar characters, similar experience, and neither are overly focused on having flashy matches - all things that kinda distinguished...
He had shared a video on his IG story of some pastor (or similar role) doing a sermon about how people need to beat their kids, essentially. Understandably, some people weren't too fond of that. But also understandably, it blew over pretty quickly.
That fact aside, I think Page is a decent enough wrestler and surely one of the better mic workers on the brand right now, so I don't see any problem with him having the belt for what I assume won't be a super long reign.
