Do time periods that they come in affect a wrestlers popularity and overall success?

For example, Shawn Michaels. As said on his DVD 'Shawn was a great champion when we (WWE/F) needed a great champion'. There were a ot of guys who left, and HBK came through at the right time.

But! Would HBK have got over as much as he did and have been as succesful if he came into the WWE in say, I don't know 2002 or 1982?

Another example, Hulk Hogan. At the time Hogan was the top guy, to quote Soulpowerrrrrrrr

"Hogan simply realized that people wanted entertainment, not wrestling. Because of that, he did what made him (and the WWF) money. Punches, Hulk-Ups, Big Boots and Leg Drops."

Now think about it this way-If Hogan had came into wrestling say in 1999, would he have been as big a star?

Discuss whether you think the time they break through affects the success of a wrestler

PS-For the examples, they wouldnt be older/younger than they were than they debuted, it's just hypothetical

If you change the past, its going to change the future.

You mentioned Hulk Hogan if he started in 99. Well, whos to say the wwe would have lasted that long without Hogan. At the time the wwe was growing and looking for the the top notch guy. He blew up, when the wwe blew up. I would assume he would be very similar to Batista today, if he debuted today.

HBK would be a lot like Jeff Hardy. It would take him longer to get over with a roster that was filled with top talent.

Personally i think every wrestler would be a different situation if they switched Eras. Who knows, Charlie Haas could have been 10x NWA champ back in the day.

I think Mr. Kennedy would have gotten over back in the earlier days.

That is a very interesting topic i agree if you change the past the future if changed there is no denying that but it would be intersting to assume what could happen if....

What if Cm Punk didn't spend alot of 2000' in ROH what if he went straight to the wwe around the time of the big draft split up ? I see him possibly a IC Champ or a HC Champ probably a good heel but he probably would have gotten the big title until about now because of the giant HHH austin and all that era he would have been held back ?

What about others..Ill have to think of more and come back.. I still think this is a great topic good idea.

What if John Cena debuted back in 1999?

or....

what if Umaga debuted back in the 80's?

I think Cena might....well I think he would've been alright...

I think Umaga would probably get a title had he like...debuted in the 80's.

What if Kennedy, MVP, and Santino all debuted in the attitude era period?
or in the Hogan era period?

I think they'd probably be somewhat successful and such...I dunno...whoa!

Time periods might would change some, but the true greats would have been greats no matter when they appeared. You put Hulk Hogan in the 70s or in the 2020s, and he still would be successful. Because, wrestling is about understanding how to connect with a crowd, and the great ones could do that no matter.
