Now I understand what the meaning of this is and that it's the 'Go away, we don't care about you' type of heat rather than booing someone because they're playing the role well, but what I want to know is when and why did this term actually come to light?

I'll be honest, I saw him from the Attitude Era onwards when I was growing up as a casual fan and I honestly liked the guy, I thought he was fun to the watch in the ring and I enjoyed his stuff from his DX days and when he got together with Kane.

I think it started around the Invasion era where Pac was booked as a face against the heel WCW/ECW guys, but he was almost always booed and his opponents cheered because no one cared about X-Pac anymore.

I think the X-Pac heat came to light during the X-Factor and the Invasion storyline and if i remember correctly he was on the WWF's side but still being boo'ed like crazy against anyone he was in the ring with. As for why he was being boo'ed i think people just didn't like him personally or he was just damn good at what he does kinda like Vickie she gets that type of heat as well.

More like 2000 when the X-Pac heat thing started, I remember when he was teaming with Road Dogg. and Road Dogg would do his sthcik and the fans would eat it up, then promptly go back to screaming X-Pac sucks.

I don't think people atcually didn't care for the guy, I'm guessing it was more of a going with the flow type of thing. A few people start a chant over and over, more people will generally start doing the chants.

Like "Rocky sucks" in 97. It only took like 6 guys constantly going to WWF shows to start all that.

I'm pretty sure it started when Kane and X-Pac were a tag team. They tried to get this angle over where X-Pac's trying to rise to Kane's level, and it didn't work at all. It was "Kane and his little bandana'd friend." Worse yet, Kane and X-Pac were teaming against Undertaker and Big Show, and we were supposed to buy X-Pac as being on this level. There was a Fatal Fourway at a PPV between Kane/X-Pac/Show/Taker where X-Pac eliminated Kane with a shitty spinning wheel kick, and that was it for me. I remember it starting around that time. Just after that they turned X-Pac on Kane in an effort to capitalize on X-Pac's heat, but there was nothing they could do with it.

EDIT: the Fatal Fourway was against the Acolytes, not Taker/Show.

Sorry to see you waste all that typing, but you're well off the mark - Xpac was a huge fan favourite then.

As others have already correctly stated, you're looking at late 2000... a time when he just didn't move with the times.

The correct term is CM Punk heat, as X-Pac was more over as a heel so he's a bad example.
