They really need to. John Cena doesn't need the WWE title right now or really ever again. He's already a record setting 10-time champion.

I'd like to see Cena come out tomorrow night and be a "man" and respectfully cash in the briefcase by giving himself a match with Punk at SS where he loses. In my perfect world this loss causes Cena to turn against the fans but I doubt that part will happen. I can dream though.
