Simple idea, tell everybody who your favourite artist is right now and why exactly we should give them a listen. You could potentially even give a few examples of their songs to help support what you're saying.

Favourite Artist - Drake

You should listen to Drake because he is on top of the world right now. He is setting record after record after record, he is producing some of the best music of his life and is just on fire. He has the King Midas effect, everything he touches turns to gold. He kills pretty much every feature he is on and just makes songs so so so much better. I know Drake gets a lot of criticsm about how he's soft and stuff but I don't see how that has a negative effect on his music. The man is so talented, he can sing, he can rap and he can act.

Songs you should listen to:

Frank Turner

I first starting listening to Frank back in 2011. I heard one of his songs a year or so earlier & liked it (that would be "Long Live The Queen") but never really took the time to get into his music straight away. I remember even passing up getting his 2nd album in order to get the latest Yellowcard album instead (man, that was a silly move in hindsight )

So I was going through a rough patch in early 2011 & somehow starting coming across his stuff again. It was mostly material from his second album "Love Ire & Song". I fell in love with tracks like "Photosynthesis" & "Reasons Not To Be An Idiot". That second one was particularly relative at the time. Eventually I'd buy the album & my love affair with Mr. Turner would begin. I still consider the album to be the one of the best, if not the most important I've ever listened to. If ever there was a soundtrack to my time as a young adult, this is it.

It also helped that within a few months of this fandom, he'd release his 4th album "England Keep My Bones", helping to keep my interest going. Later that year I'd see him live for the first time in one of the best gigs I've ever attended & have been back to see him twice more, a different venue every time.

To break down his music I'd have to break it down into two lists: his most known/accessible tracks, & the ones that mean the most to me, the ones that I can relate to the most during the last few years of my life. Here's a mix of both.

Maroon 5. Their songs are awesome and have a great sound. Their new album is just as good as their old material if not better. They aren't slowing down anytime soon and I'll definitely stick to their bandwagon

My favorite artist/band will always be Saliva. I have always loved this band, and I even have their garage CDs.

I won't begrudge you for picking Drake, but using this as an argument as to why I should listen to him is pretty weak dude.

This is virtually an impossible question for me, but if I had to pick a favourite band with a gun to my head I'd say Ramones. Why should you listen to them? Because they're Ramones of course. No other argument is needed.

My argument was that because he's on top of the world his popularity and stock keeps rising, he's evidently an exceptional artist considering his popularity and figures. He can cover so many different genres I feel like everyone should give him a listen.

So you'd also then argue that New Kids on the Block were exceptional artists? They were pretty popular and made lots of money. Hell, by that token you can argue that the Spice Girls were exceptional artists, something I'm pretty sure nobody here would claim.

Obviously Drake is not in the same category since he writes his own material, but still, popularity and sales is hardly a good bellwether as to why an individual should like someone.

I don't mean you should like him because he's popular, it's just popularity is usually an indication over whether or not someone is good. I think you should give him a go to listen to as the man can both rap and sing.
