an early 20th-century Estonian strongman and professional wrestler, and the first free-style heavyweight champion of the world. He was born in Estonia and lived most of his life in London, England where he was known as George Hackenschmidt and gained the nickname of "The Russian Lion" (Estonia was part of the Russian Empire for much of his life). The first widely recognized World Heavyweight Champion in wrestling history, Hackenschmidt is believed to be the creator of the professional wrestling version of the bear hug as well as the originator of the hack squat, a squat-deadlift with arms behind the body.

In the course of his career, Brisco wrestled for several National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) member promotions and won dozens of championships. In the course of his career, Brisco, along with his partner Pat Patterson, achieved more fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s as the onscreen "stooge" of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. He is the younger brother of former professional wrestler Jack Brisco who died in early 2010. In March 2010, Brisco return to the WWE as a talent scout.​
