WWE Vengeance 2002 - Tables match: Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit vs. Bubba Ray & Spike Dudley

This is Benoits first PPV match in 13 months (King Of The Ring 2001). Both opponents must be put through tables in order to win the match. Traditional tag team rules appear to apply otherwise. . Benoit and Guerrero control the action early on, working Bubba over. This goes on for quite a while and Guerrero sets up the first table, on the floor. Spike doesn't want to be at a disadvantage, so he jumps off Bubba's back and over the ropes to wipe Guerrero out on the floor. Benoit then throws Spike into the steps just to be a jerk. Back in the ring Bubba tries to fight back but he gets overwhelmed by the double-teaming. Spike recovers and prevents Bubba from going through a table, and moments later Bubba returns the favor. The referee loses control and all four men are brawling in the ring. The Dudleys 2.0 finally get some offense in. Bubba tries to senton Benoit through a table but he moves and Bubba crashes through the table. But since it wasn't an offensive move, Bubba is still in the match. That makes sense. Guerrero and Spike battle on the apron, and Spike is able to hit the Dudley Dog through the table that Guerrero had set up himself! That looked nasty. Benoit quickly tries to setup another table in the ring, but instead just grabs Spike and hurls him over the top rope through another table on the floor! Moments later Bubba hits Benoit with a Bubba Bomb through a table to get the win. This was a really fun opener. ***

WWE Vengeance 2002 - Cruiserweight Championship: Jamie Noble vs. Billy Kidman

Both guys tumble out to start, and Kidman gets a couple of quick two-counts, and Noble bails to regroup. Back in, Kidman with the headscissors and a legdrop that sends Noble running again. Kidman follows with a pescado that misses, and Noble gets a single-arm DDT on the floor and posts the shoulder. Back in, it gets two. Northern Lights gets two. Noble works the arm, but Kidman fights back. Noble posts him again to end that rally, and Kidman hits the floor. Back in, Noble uses a hammerlock take down and keys the lock. Kidman fights free, and gets a rana and dropkick to come back. Death Valley Driver variation gets two. Rebound clothesline is blocked, and Noble gets another armbar takedown into a Herb Kunze armbar. Kidman makes the ropes. Kidman with an enzuigiri to the small of the back (and that’s being generous) and he goes up, but Noble follows and gets caught with a Rydien bomb off the top rope for two. Kidman goes back up and they screw up a tornado DDT reversal spot, and Kidman heads back up again, only to miss the Shooting Star Press. Noble cradles for two. The he hits the Tiger Driver for the 3 count. The arm stuff meant nothing because the finish was a powerbomb. But i still enjoyed that for the small amount of time they got. **3/4

WWE Vengeance 2002 - European Championship: Jeff Hardy vs. William Regal

Hardy won the title from Regal on Raw two weeks ago and then Regal cried. This is a pretty distinct clash of styles. Regal takes the early advantage and is aggressive in his attempts to become a five-time European Champion. Hardy fights back and knocks Regal to the floor, and then delivers a rana. He tries to run the guardrail and hit a cross body block but Regal avoids it. Back in the ring the challenger whips Hardy into the corner but gets hit with the Whisper in the Wind for his troubles. Hardy goes for the Swanton but Regal gets his knees up. Regal hits the Regalplex but it only gets two. He follows up with a backbreaker and a kick to the back. Hardy then gets a schoolboy rollup out of nowhere to get the pin and retain the title. This match was horrible, I felt bad for Regal. *1/2

WWE Vengeance 2002 - John Cena vs. Chris Jericho

This was before Cena'S rapping gimmick. I think he's been in the WWE for like a month now, Jericho tries to attack Cena with a chair before the bell rings but that backfires and Jericho gets cracked with the chair instead. This is Cena's pay-per-view debut and he#s looking to make the most of it, unloading on Jericho early. The wily old veteran Jericho makes the comeback and wears Cena down. Jericho goes up top but Cena knocks him down and hits a superplex for two. Cena continues on offense until Jericho cuts him off with a dropkick off the second rope. Jericho then jumps right into a belly-to-belly suplex for two. They trade counters back and forth but Jericho appears to have the upper hand after a Lionsault. He goes for the Walls of Jericho but Cena gets an inside cradle for the flash pin. I remember even at the time I saw this show Live I shook my head at Cena beating Jericho here. This match was tv quality but it did the job. **1/2

WWE Vengeance 2002 - Intercontinental Championship: Rob Van Dam vs. Brock Lesnar

Lesnar beat RVD in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament last month, so he already has a shot at the WWE Championship in his back pocket for SummerSlam. He's accompanied by his agent Paul Heyman of course. This goes about as you would expect, with Lesnar using his power and RVD countering with his agility and quickness. The fight spills to the floor, where Lesnar catches RVD and powerslams him hard on the floor, much to Heyman's delight. Back in the ring Lesnar controls for several minutes, and when RVD tries to make a comeback he quickly gets dumped to the floor again. Back in the ring Lesnar continues the assault but RVD fights back and hits Rolling Thunder for two. RVD hits a hard superkick and goes up top but Lesnar peels him right off the top and goes for the F-5 but the champion counters with a DDT! That was awesome. RVD then goes up and hits the Five-Star Frog Splash but Heyman pulls referee Charles Robinson to the floor for the DQ at. That was just getting good before the abrupt finish. This is Lesnar's best match up to this point. ***

WWE Vengeance 2002 - No Countout, No Disqualification: Booker T vs. Big Show

Booker kicks away to start, but gets slammed. Show tosses him around and pounds away. Booker with a sort-of enzuigiri, but he walks into a clothesline. Show dumps him and fends off a chair, but eventually hits the post. They brawl by the announce table and Show eats monitor, which sets up an axe kick that puts him through the table. Nice spot. Back in, Booker axekicks him again and finishes with the Houston Hangover. That was perfectly serviceable given the participants. **

Before the Tag Team Title match can happen, Triple H gets a segment to decide if he's going to sign with Eric Bischoff and Raw or Stephanie McMahon and Smackdown. At first he seems to have his heart set on Smackdown, but then Shawn Michaels comes out and convinces him to join Raw instead. (15 minute of wasted time, but we all know what happen on the next night on raw. SO ALL IS FORGIVEN)

WWE Vengeance 2002 - World Tag Team Championship: Hulk Hogan & Edge vs. Lance Storm & Christian

Edge and his hero growing up Hulk Hogan became Champs on the July 4th Episode of SD so Hogan was extremely patriotic and while Edge is Canadian he played along this is their second defense. Hogan and Christian start the match and Hogan hurls Christian right to the floor. Storm distracts Hogan from the apron but their advantage is short-lived. That's pretty much true throughout the opening minutes of the match, as every time the challengers start building momentum they get cut off by the overwhelming fan favorites. Hogan isolates Christian and hits the Legdrop but Storm breaks up the cover and now the Un-Americans take heat on Hogan. After several minutes Edge gets the hot tag and he's a house afire. The referee gets bumped and so no one is there to make the count when Edge hits Storm with the Edgecution. Test runs out and attacks Hogan, and then drills Edge with the Big Boot. Storm covers but only gets two! Rikishi makes his way out and chases Test to the back. Meanwhile Edge hits Storm with a Spear but the referee gets distracted by Christian and Hogan on the floor and doesn't see Jericho hitting Edge in the face with one of the title belts and Storm gets the pin and the titles. This was going okay until all the nonsense started, although Hogan looked even worse than usual tonight. *1/2

WWE Vengeance 2002 - Undisputed WWE Championship Match: The Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle vs. The Rock

Now this main event here of Vengeance 02 is widely considered by many experts as one of the best Triple threat matches of all time, up there with both Benot-Shawn-HHH matches at Mania XX and Backlash 04 and the like. unniest bit of the night: Rock and Undertaker talk some shit to each other while Kurt stands in the background waving his arms to get their attention, at which point both of them turn around and drop him. Angle’s tights continue to become awesomer, as he now has red-while-and-blue camouflage tights. Where one would hide themselves in such tights is a mystery, but it sure looks neat. Rock dumps Angle, and Taker pounds Rock in the corner, but Rock slugs back. Taker gets the flying clothesline, but ends up on the floor and Angle sends him into the stairs. Back in, Rock goes after Angle, but gets suplexed. Angle chokes away, and they start exchanging chops until Angle gets another suplex. Again, but Rock DDTs him for two. They head out and Angle walks into Undertaker’s clothesline. Taker then shifts his attention to Rock and pounds away, and they head back in, as Undertaker pounds away in the corner. The satellite feed cuts out here for about five minutes, unfortunately. It returns with Angle pounding on Undertaker in the corner as Rock is out on the floor. Taker stomps him down and dodges a charge, and Angle lands on the floor. Taker posts him, but Rock gives him the EVIAN SPEW OF DOOM. Amazingly, this doesn’t kill Undertaker, so he keeps up the beating on Angle and tosses him in. JR declares Angle “bleeding like a stuck pig”, which I think gives stuck pigs a bad name. Taker with the ROPEWALK OF DEATH for two. Rock saves and lays the smackdown, but walks into a DDT for two. Taker goes for the chokeslam, but Angle stops that, and gets pinballed as a result. Rock Bottom on UT is blocked, as is Taker’s chokeslam on Rock. Everyone is down, so Angle grabs the chair and has his way with Undertaker, then gets the Angle Slam on Rock. He goes for the Undertaker pin, and gets two. So then he tries Rock, and gets two. Denied! Rock comes back with the Scorpion King Deathlock, but before Angle can tap again Taker saves. Last Ride on Rock gets two, but Angle pulls him off with the anklelock. Taker tries to powerbomb him, too, but gets caught in the triangle choke again. This one looks really bad, however, and Taker powerbombs out of it. Angle hangs on, but Rock saves. Rock Bottom is reversed to another anklelock, but Rock reverses for two. UT chokeslams Angle, but walks into a Rock Bottom that gets two. That probably should have been the finish. Angle cradles Rock for two, and Angle Slams Undertaker, but walks into a Rock Bottom that gives Rock title. These three went at it without any dull moments, hitting the other guy’s finisher on him just made it all the more enjoyable to watch. ****1/2

ROH on HDNet Episode #11, 05/30/2009 - Tables Match for the ROH World Tag Team Championship: Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. The American Wolves

Tables are legal, but a pinfall or submission is still what wins you the match. They meet in the aisleway and a split-screen brawl ensues because this is SERIOUS BUSINESS. Once the champs are in the ring, they target Richards while Edwards is on the floor. Steen hits a pair of somersault legdrops on Richards. Edwards makes a save for his partner, but winds up taking a Backpack Senton. KEVIN – GET THE TABLES! They bang the American Wolves heads onto a table and then lean it up in the corner. Edwards avoids a whip on the table, but then charges back at Generico into a T-bone suplex into the corner. Richards pulls out Generico and whips him into the guardrail. In the ring, Steen ducks a clothesline and goes to powerbomb Richards through the table. Richards slips out and dropkicks Steen’s injured knee. And it begins. Generico comes in and takes the Alarm Clock to set up the superkick into the German suplex onto the table. It doesn’t break though, but certainly does some damage. Edwards is the one to finally snap the table in half with a shinbreaker to Steen. Richards teases a Figure-Four, but the crowd likes that too much so he decides not to do that and gives the crowd the universal “up yours” sign. Meanwhile, Edwards props another table up in the corner. Steen fights off a double-team attack in the corner as Generico flies in from out of nowhere onto the American Wolves. Michinoku Driver to Edwards! Cover, 1-2-NO! Generico escapes the D.R. DRIVER and walks the ropes into a tornado DDT. He sees Edwards on the floor, so he takes him out with a somersault dive. In the ring, Richards charges at Steen and gets hit with a powerbomb on the table. Senton Bomb by Steen! Flying Splash by Generico! Cover on Richards, 1-2-NO! Edwards saves his partner. On the floor, the tag champs set up a double-stack of tables. They grab Edwards to powerbomb him off the apron THROUGH the table, but Richards saves him by scoring a running dropkick on Steen’s bad knee. See, that’s the difference in setting up a contrived table spot and not. In the ring, the American Wolves brutalize Steen in the corner. Richards misses a Shooting Star Press (!!). Down on the floor, Generico FLIES THROUGH the bottom and middle ropes into Edwards for a swinging DDT! Holy crap that was awesome. He puts Edwards on a table and flying splashes him through the table! Meanwhile, Steen has Richards in a SHARPSHOOTER! Here comes Shane Hagadorn still selling the back from last week (of course this is a TV taping, so it makes more sense for the live crowd). He breaks up the hold, but takes a PACKAGE PILEDRIVER for his troubles. Steen places Richards on a table for the Moonsault, but Richards hops up and shoves Steen down through the double-stack of tables! I think Steen will call it a night now. Generico charges Richards with a Yakuza Kick and calls for a BRAINBUSTER through the table. The problem is he forgot about Edwards, who runs in for the low-blow to set up the DOOMSDAY ACE CRUSHER THROUGH THE TABLE! That does it for Generico as Edwards gets the pin. We’ve got NEW ROH world tag team champions. Well that was a battle. Lots of great stuff with the American Wolves working over Steen’s knee while Steenerico were crazy enough to take a lot of risks to hold onto the belts. This was action packed and a really good TV main event. ***3/4
