WWE Raw 04/05/10 Review

David Otunga hosts

Jack Swagger opens the show. Swagger has on his serious pants tonight. Flashback to Smackdown when Swagger won the title.
Swagger on the mic. It's still hard to take him seriously with that damn lisp. Says Chris Jericho is better than John Cena. Says he's going to Smackdown because Smackdown has better wrestlers. Cena interrupts. Cena congratulates Swagger and says it's not about what he did in the past but what you're gonna do. Cena says Swagger hasn't earned his belt. Cena challenges Swagger to a match. Cena puts the WWE title on the line. Swagger is about to chicken out when Randy Orton comes out. Orton says Swagger would want to face him. ShoMiz out now. Miz says the show is all about ShoMiz. David Otunga comes out (with an awesome looking hairstyle) Otunga brags about himself. Otunga sets up Orton vs. Swagger and ShoMiz vs. Cena and Batista.
Thoughts: Good opening segment. Basically sets up the rest of the show.

Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus is the first match on Raw. Kingston with kicks but gets caught with a catatonic backbreaker. Short arm lariat gets two. Kingston with a cross body. Kingston with a nice looking feint dive into a dropkick. Bicycle kick and razor edge gets three. Did Kofi Kingston take a dump in Stephanie McMahon's shoes? He hasn't done hardly anything noteworthy since Survivor Series.

After the match Sheamus grabs a pipe from under the ring and hits Kingston in the head with it. Triple H is seen walking backstage as we go to break. Flashback to when Sheamus attacked Triple H last week. Sheamus cuts a promo on Shawn Michaels. Sheamus whines about Triple H refusing to job to him at Mania. Triple H comes out, grabs sledgy and Sheamus runs away. Triple H gets on the mic and talks about bringing a pipe to a sledgehammer fight.

Evening gown diva battle royal (kill me now) Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, Gail Kim, Rosa Mendes, Jillian Hall, Katie Lea Burchill, Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Eve Torres. Maryse runs down the participants. This is gonna suck ass. Mendes Monty Browns herself over the top rope. One of the Bella bitches gets kicked out under the bottom rope (way to fight for a title shot bitch). Other bella gets kicked through the middle rope. Gail Kim with a snatch factor on the ropes. Kelly Kelly eliminates both Gail Kim and Katie Lea. Kelly eliminated by Jillian. Double suplex by Alicia and Jillian. Alicia spears the post and gets tossed. Eve stupidly goes for a tarantula move (in an elimination match? really?). Jillian dives through the middle rope as Eve Torres gets the win. Fuck this match.
Rating: DUD

David Otunga's NXT video profile is seen. David is seen with a bunch of losers when Santino comes in and asks where the A-team is. Santino does a Mr. T impression. Hornswoggle eats some M & Ms as we have a game of capture the midget. Blue segment but surprisingly not as bad as some of the ones we've seen in the past.

Cena and Batista vs. ShoMiz for the tag belts. Gee I wonder how this one will go down. Cena starts against Miz. Cena doing this by himself so far but Show takes control with a headbutt. Cena fights back and to the surprise of no one Batista walks out as Cena runs after him. They get counted out as ShoMiz retain.
Rating: 1/2 Grenade

Otunga comes out and makes another tag title match with Cena and himself.

Ted Dibiase comes out with the million dollar belt and cuts a promo about his dad never being there but providing in other
ways (money).

Christian vs. Ted Dibiase is the fourth match of the night. Christian with rights to start. Surf rider by Christian. Christian tosses Ted out of the ring and hits a plancha on the outside. Ted takes control with a neckbreaker through the ropes. Christian fights out of a chinlock. Christian with the dosido kick in the corner. Cross body gets two for
Christian. Round of counters leads a schoolboy for two for Christian. Christian sent into the post. Dreamstreet by Ted Dibiase for the win. Good match.
Rating: 2 and 1/2 grenades out of 5

Draft is back. Goody.

Shawn Michaels video package is seen. See TNA that's how a video package should look.

Orton vs. Swagger. Swagger dominant to start. Vintage stomps by Orton. Swagger single leg slam and clothesline over the top rope leads to commercial. European uppercuts by Orton. Swagger knocks Orton into the barricade. Belly to back and vertical suplex each get two. Orton fights back. Orton with the suspended DDT but Swagger gets the ropes. Powerslam by Orton. Back to backbreaker. RKO attempts is blocked into a big boot. Vader bomb gets two for Swagger. Gutwrench bomb
countered into the RKO for the win. Good match but the finish wasn't right. Swagger needs the win and momentum more than Orton and if Swagger would have won with a rollup nobody would have looked weak.
Rating: 3 Grenades out of 5

Hart and Soul dvd spot is seen.

David Hasselhoff is hosting raw. I wonder if he'll show up drunk.

Main event time as Cena and Otunga face ShoMiz. Crowd goes mild for Otunga. Otunga and Cena use teamwork on Miz. Otunga shoulder tackles Miz down a couple times. Cena tagged in and gets a bulldog for two. Big show uses headbutt on Cena. Show tagged into the match. Cena goes for the shoulder block but Show shrugs him off. Cena isolated by ShoMiz for a bit. Running clothesline in the corner by Miz. Cena goes for the hot tag but Otunga jumps off the ropes. Wow shocking. Show with the knockout punch for the win. I'm surprised they didn't have Cena win the titles by himself.
Rating: 2 and 1/4 grenades out of 5.

After the match Batista lays out Cena with the Batista bomb. Batista asks for his spotlight. David Otunga says Batista has an announcement. Batista invokes his rematch and it's a last man standing match.

Final Thoughts: Decent enough Raw. Otunga shows he can handle live television without botching. The draft is coming back which means we'll see more jobbers swapped between Raw and Smackdown. As far as building towards Extreme Rules not a lot happened other than the last man standing match being announced. Definitely more enjoyable than Impact this week.
Overall Rating: 2 and 3/4 grenades out of 5
