Fucking hell.

If there's any lesson learned from this it's that WWE should stop booking old ass guys in angles like this, I don't know how it came about as such but putting a 62 year old in a match against an athlete like Ziggler screams bad idea to me for a variety of reasons.

The Wellness Policy should be adjusted accordingly so if it's absolutely neccessary to put a Lawler, Flair, or anyone else of age in the ring, they need the appropriate tests beforehand. I know WWE are generally good to the older employees so don't want to totally slag them off, but finding other jobs for these sort of guys would be a great idea so the risk isn't there.

Actually read somewhere that pointed out that it's a good thing he was at work. Think about what would have happened if he was at home or doing one of the indy shows he's fond of?

Yeah the med staff getting there as fast as they did actually saved his life as he could have died otherwise.

They pretty much swooped in there like fucking commandos and took him away before you could even put 2 and 2 together. I didn't even think to record it, but in retrospect I'm glad I didn't.

I think they should stop wrestling at 45-50. You shouldn't be wrestling anymore at 60 years old, at least not often. It's too risky.

Also, I would like to add that I am glad they didn't cancel the show. Yes, it was a scary incident and it was hard to get into it again but the last segment kept us all interested again.

JR posted on Twitter that King suffered no brain damage after his brain was cut off from oxygen. Positive news. He's a very lucky man.

Think about that though. How would you give everyone their money back that would take far too much effort sure you could refund credit cards but the venue would have to have people available to recieve tickets to refund. Within minutes you have to find alternative programming to send USA which is probably not really at the ready (it maybe around but it's not planned for). You then also have to scramble for police to get outside the venue for traffic issues etc.

Cancelling the show really isn't that great an option.
They manage to do this well enough in football games when there are in excess of 70,000 fans so I'm sure that the police and WWE would have been fine had they of cancelled the show. Of course. I wasn't immediately suggesting that WWE crew run to every spectator and give them a refund there and then. What most companies tend to do is offer another set of tickets or some other deal to keep them sweet. WWE seem to care more about making money then their employees lives.

Cancelling a show is easier if you didn't have how many TV markets that would be out of programmining for that one and a half hours, it's not just USA, it's The Score in Canada and Skysports or whatever it's called, I never really paid attention to the channel I watch streams on and it also leaves investors pissed off and potential investors scared of the product.

This is still a business afterall.

To be honest football airs on more TV channels than WWE does. I'm sure The USA network could have replaced the time with other programming. Nonetheless WWE has come into criticism for the way it treats their employees recently but to be fair they have always received negative press. I bet if Vince McMahon had the heart attack things would have been different! I just think its a bit disrespectful, money is not everything. Perhaps I'm just being ignorant though.

I seriously doubt Vince McMahon would ever allow the show to be cancelled if he was the one who was taken to a hospital, he is the epitome of the show must go on.

From WWE's Twitter account just a few minutes ago:

UPDATE: "As of Wednesday afternoon, @JerryLawler remains in a cardiac care unit in Montreal. His vital signs continue to be stable..."

UPDATE: "He is awake, recognizes family members and is communicating with them. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery."

I pretty much agree with what some others have said in here about how WWE should really cut back on the older talent being used so regularly for the sake of their health. But I'll reserve any anger or blame towards WWE as long as they now begin to change what they're doing in that regard. No one could have predicted something like this.

Glad Jerry's doing okay, he's a very lucky man. I think the scariest part of this incident is realising how easily it could happened in a different time or setting where things may have gone differently. If I was Jerry right now I'd be considering at least taking time off. No one would blame him.

I hope he gets the chance of a farewell again, I'm not talking a match or even commentary but to walk out in front of a live crowd to a standing ovation.

The American members here prol won't know what I'm talking about here but like when Fabrice Muamba came back at the Reebok after his heart attack and everyone was chanting his name.

Jerry Lawler is completely off sedation and is now breathing on his own without the help of any breathing tube.

Lawler is still very weak and has been asked to rest his body and not speak to allow his body to recuperate and adapt after everything he's been through.

Lawler has been given breathing exercises to help his lungs after several days of being on ventilation.
Lawler's girlfriend posted on her Facebook account, "I know everyone wants to speak to him and hear him...just know that he is doing great now and when the time comes for him to call and talk he will..I promise! Also, the rumor statutes that he was brain dead or had brain damage is completely FALSE. His CT scan of his brain came back NORMAL & he is just fine! Thanks again everyone for your love, support, and powerful prayers!! I will be bringing the King back home before you know it! :)"

Great news that his CT scan came back normal and that he is managing to breathe on his own and communicate. He is making small but steady progress and hopefully he continues to improve in the coming days.

As for a specific retirement age for wrestlers it is tough because some reach their peak at different ages and it all depends on what injuries they have suffered during their career. Lawler still apparently wrestles close to 100 matches a year in WWE and Independents plus he has passed all the WWE medicals so he was fit enough to wrestle. It was just a freak incident and in the end he was very lucky that there was some excellent medical help on hand.

Jerry Lawler has an official website, with an official store on it. If you guys want to buy something to help him out. I'm not sure he needs financial help, but nevertheless. Heres the link to his store, T-shirts, Original Artwork and even replica crowns.

The King's Court

He also has a twitter.
