What do you think are the best gimmick changes in wrestling history?

I think one of the best was JBL's move from Bradshaw to John Bradshaw Layfield. He managed to go from a guy known for being a tag team wrestler to becoming a fantastic heel and a wrestling gawd.

JBL is pretty awesome. Great heel.

For a more recent example, I'd say Brother Ray to Bully Ray was pretty great.

Ok, ok, AV wins.

Fake Diesel (or was it Isaac Yankeem at that time?) to Kane. Rocky Maivia to The Rock led to good success for The Rock.

There are some really good ones mentioned so far, but I'll add a few more to the thread.

However, I would argue that The Ringmaster becoming Stone Cold Steve Austin was just as big as the Undertaker's transition. Not only did it make Austin the man, but it changed the entire era of wrestling. Yes, it brought in the Attitude era!

American Hero Hulk Hogan transitioning to Hollywood Hogan was gold! It turned a stale, ran in the dirt, baby face into the biggest heel of the 1990s! I mean, who the hell goes from being the biggest face in the 1980s to the most hated the next decade!?

The Prototype to Dr of Thuganomics was also a career saver in my opinion. Yes, Cena had the look, but if he didn't get the gimmick, he wouldn't be where he is today. He has done so well, that he is at the point, that all you see is Cena. Everything has become natural.

Ramblin Ricky Rhodes becoming Rick Flair.

Tiger Mask II becoming Mitsuharu Misawa was also huge!

The Natural Dustin Rhodes to Goldust.

Oh and... Johnny Polo to Raven was huge too. Remember, the Raven Character was huge for ECW.

Husky Harris to Bray Wyatt is a more recent one I can think off.

Husky Harris was just a fat guy who was quite quick, Bray Wyatt has some personality.

Dusty Rhodes from The Texas Outlaws coming down to Florida and becoming The American Dream was pretty excellent.
