Finn Balor, the former Prince Devitt, tweeted the following about his new WWE NXT ring name today:

"Finn has risen... Everything is done for a reason. Finn McCool meets Balor. #FinnBálor @WWENXT"

Reader DannyZ sent word that Finn Balor actually means Prince or Warrior of Death. Finn McCool was a legendary Irish warrior and Balor was a demon God of Death in Irish folklore. We've heard that Devitt chose his own name.
Was pretty disappointed when I read he got a complete name makeover but reading the reason behind the names makes it a pretty cool choice I guess.

Just Steen left to choose one now I would imagine.

Pretty sure most of these guys pick their own names.

Still think he should've kept Fergal, because I just love that name, may steal it for a future kid I won't admit was mine.

But after saying that, if the guy is talented....a name isn't going to keep him down. You could rename Dan Rather to Ben Dover and he'd still be Dan Rather.

I hope the announcers attempt to explain the origin of the name on NXT because it will probably fall hilariously flat. His in-ring skills should make up for that though.

I would imagine that the 'bigger name' indy signings such as guys like these will be allowed to choose their own names but I think most of the guys used to get a bunch of names to just choose from I think

I still don't care for the name that much. I like the last name, not feeling Finn so much.

Another reason it would have been good to have stuck with Fergal is because it is the name of the singer of the Undertones (google it those not in the know). Name doesn't sound great, but like deezy said what's in a name?
