WWF King Of The Ring

First Round: Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon
Razor is coming off the 123 kid loss; I think that was a month prior so I think his heel run is coming to an end soon. This was pretty damn good, they had a good feeling out process at the beginning until Bret started targeting the arm, Razor does give him a sweet clothesline that looked like it might turn the tide but Bret kept going back to the arm. It’s just a shame Razor no-sold all of it, Razor does manage to take over when he throws Bret through the turnbuckles sending Bret into the ring post. Razor kicks a few times at his head, but then stomps on Bret’s hand this will become a big deal later in the night. Razor’s offense on the heat was good but he didn't target one part for more than 10 seconds, he went from head, to back to chest back to the hand and repeat. Bret’s comeback was great and was only made better ‘cause the crowd would pop for everything he did. At one point, Bret goes for a bulldog but Razor shoves him chest first into the buckle but when he goes for the Razor’s edge Bret counters into a crucifix attempt and runs up the ropes floating over and catches Razor off guard in a small package for two AWESOME! The match would end like a minute later when Razor goes for a middle rope side suplex, but Bret counters that by landing on top of Razor for the win. Weird finish that we’re not use to seeing, but other than that this was a fun little opener. ***

A clip from superstars airs of Giant Gonzalez and Mr. Hughes destroying The Undertaker with the urn.

First Round: Mr. Perfect vs. Mr. Hughes (w/Harvey Whippleman)
Perfect’s pop was godly, Hughes controls the opening using his power but after that it was all Perfect carrying this. He made a Hughes punch look great as he took it and went flying over the top rope :lmao Hughes slows down the match with an extended sequence of a neck vice a couple of times that sucked. Well all knew it sucked so we get a split screen with JR asking Bret who he would rather face and who he wants to win :lmao Hughes continues to work the neck but he misses a move leading to a Perfect comeback, Perfect begins to pepper him with punches so Hughes picks up the urn and hits him in the head leading to the DQ. Perfect pretty much carries this with his bumping and offense, fuck Hughes. *1/2

Backstage: Mean Gene interviews Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji. He says the last time he faced Hulk the results weren’t so good for him, Fuji cuts him off and says he beat Bret fair but Hulk cheated to win against him. Fuji asks Yoko what he has to say, and Yoko says Hulk Hogan, American Hero will go down.

First Round: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan
Duggan acting like the 2x4 was a shotgun and began “shooting” at Bam was great; we get the big vs. big guy who can knock the other down first stitch with Jim winning that match up as the fans chant “USA” pretty sure Bam is American, IDIOTS! Bam whips Jim hard into the buckles early on and he injuries them that allows Bam to work them for a bit and I like that he couldn't do a thing ‘cause the ribs would keep giving out, so just as it looked like he was ready for the comeback the ribs would give out leading to Bam taking over again. That happens twice but he does manage the scoop slam, Jim then tries for the running charge/NFL should tackle but Bam doges it and Jim hits headfirst off the top turnbuckle, Bam Bam quickly heads to the top rope to hit his flying headbutt for the win. Meh! Match to be honest Bam pretty much carried this ‘cause Jims only offense to this point was punches and a scoop slam. *

Backstage: Terry Taylor is with the Crush, the Steiner’s and Smoking Gunns. They are doing the hotline, no fucks are given.

First Round: “The Narcissist” Lex Luger vs. Tatanka
Both men are currently undefeated since joining the WWF, before the match, the referee orders Luger to wear an elbow pad so his metal plate in his forearm won't be able to be used AWESOME! Lex jumps Tatanka right off the bat, but that backfires on Lex cause all it seemed to do was piss Tatanka off and he comes back by beating on him for a bit. Tatanka begins to work the arm, he’s no Bret so yeah it was lame :lmao they even added the scoop slam roll through into the hammerlock like Razor/Bret did. We get a split screen with Bam, Bam says he wants to get his hands on the Indian and if he wins he better be ready. The fight over hammerlocks for a bit until Lex elbows out and begins to kick away at Tatanka as he no-sells the arm, UGH! Lex begins to work the mid-section now and it sucked, man this whole match has sucked. Man Lex is dragging the shit out of this, he hits a move talks to the ref walks around the ring a bit before going for a cover. Way too many rest-holds for my liking, neither man looks like they want it at all. 11 minutes in and nothing has happen, oh fuck no they’re gonna do a draw NOOOOOOO! Tatanka begins to dance and that allows him to make a shit comeback he gets several close two. We're under a minute left and Luger is taking his time hitting any moves and covers. The bell rings before there's a winner, what a waste. Post-match: Lex throws off the elbow pad and KO's Tatanka with his forearm.

Both men are out of the tournament, and as a result, Bam Bam Bigelow gets a bye to the finals, where he'll face the winner of Bret/Perfect.

Backstage: Mean Gene is with Mr. Perfect and Bret Hart. Gene attempts to sir it up saying Bret said the only reason he wanted perfect to win is cause he thought Perfect would be easier. Both men begin talking shit, until Gene again sirs it up more by saying both men are 2nd generation wrestlers; and did their dads ever meet and Bret jumps in straight away and says yes they did and his dad Stu won. Perfect then brings up SummerSlam, saying he owes him and never say his dad could beat his dad, because he couldn't on his best day. Perfect says he'll do what he has to, because he's a winner. Bret says that he wasn't at SummerSlam, Perfect says may the best man win, and offers his hand. Bret goes to shake, but Perfect pulls it back. He says he got him, just like he'll get him in the ring. AWESOME!

Semi-Finals: Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect
I like that for the Semi’s the time limit have been moved up to 30 minutes now, I will bring up that Bret has his fingers taped for this match. We gets some great face paced mat wrestling, all crisp and smooth with counters that ruled. Bret’s game plan early on was to frustrate Perfect with side headlock takedowns and it was working, even Perfects bumping on the take downs were “Perfect” I like that Perfect got so frustrated that he had to resort to a cheap knee to the mid-section to begin to take over, he started to real aggressive and began to play a bit of a heel role for this. At one point, Perfect holds the ropes open for Bret, only to kick him when Bret's trying to climb in AWESOME! He goes right back to the mid-section as they begin to fight on the floor, Bret is on the apron now and Perfect uses the ropes as a weapon and lunches Bret off them sending him into the rails, and to make matters worse Bret’s knee hits a water cooler and is in LEGIT! Pain. Credit Perfect for buying time by cutting the ref off during the counts, sweet missile drop kick by Perfect that looked like it killed Bret, as he begins to pick up the pace hitting a series of big moves and going for the cover right away. Bret would come back with a superplex from the middle rope for two, before kicking the shit out of his leg Perfect doing the back flip bump :lmao Bret locks in the figure-four but he manages to make it the ropes for a break. Bret’s knee work was phenomenal and just as aggressive as Perfect was Bret’s meanness was on point too. Perfect tosses Bret across the ring with his hair, and applies a sleeper but Bret manages to get to the ropes so Perfect pulls him back in and now begins to use the ropes out of desperation. Bret breaks out of it this time by sending Perfect face first into a buckle before hitting a sick uppercut. He pays Perfect back by throwing him hair first across the ring but Perfect’s bumps crazy and he goes crotch first into the post AWESOME! Bret hits a series of moves for two, before he attempts the sharpshooter but Perfect grabs the fingers and twists them to break the hold AWESOME! He then attempts the Perfectplex but Bret uses his weight and both men fall to the floor, Perfect fakes a knee injury to surprise Bret with a small package, Bret reverses it into one of his own for the win. Post-match has Perfect pissed off and heads back in the ring. It looks as if he's going to attack Bret, but he shakes Hart's hand and angrily leaves the ring. WOW! JUST WOW! One of my favorite matches ever; it holds up and has ages extremely well. ****1/2 - ****3/4

Terry Taylor interviews a fat kid called Wesley and his family.

WWF Championship: Yokozuna (w/Mr. Fuji) vs. Hulk Hogan (w/Jimmy Hart)
LOL @ the WWF championship going on 4th till last, Many Japanese photographers come out with Yokozuna to document the match, Geisha girls also hand him flowers. Savage brings up how many people feel it should be Bret Hart in this spot and he doesn't agree with WWE President, Jack Tunney's decision. AMAZING! Stalling to start, before we get the test of strength with both men getting a win but Yoko chops him and begins to take over. That lasts a good 4 to 5 minutes; it’s all slow with punches, kicks and chops with the occasional Irish whip. Yoko misses a running charge leading to a Hogan comeback with punches of his own, he tries to slam him but Yoko clobbers him in the back and begins to take over again. They go back and forth for a bit with Yoko cutting him off at every turn, that was pretty cool but it was just lacked moves if that makes sense. It’s been going on for 8 minutes and it’s been punches, kicks, chops and eye rakes. Oh just as I say that Yoko locks in a bear hug but Hulk manages to wiggle to his side, his hand drops twice and punches out of it. Just as it looks like he’s about o do anything Yoko would drop him with a move and the crowd would just get silent like someone just shot their dog :lmao it’s awesome. Yoko hits a sweet belly-to-belly for two, but all that did was get Hulk hype and he hulks up he connects with the big boot by Yoko is still up he hits a 2nd but he’s still up, but the 3rd takes him off his feet and he manages to kick out of the leg drop and the crowd is stunned. Fuji is on the apron so Hulk knocks him off, Suddenly A "Japanese" photographer in a bad fake beard climbs on the apron. When Hogan goes over to him, a fireball shoots out of the camera. Jimmy Hart chases the photographer to the back as Yokozuna hits a leg drop on Hogan for the win. Post-match, Fuji and Yoko pull Hogan to the corner so Yoko can hit a Banzai Drop. This is what it is, let’s move on. *1/2

Backstage: Mean Gene interviews Shawn Michael's and his new bodyguard. Shawn, says Hulk Hogan isn’t on the same league as Shawn and Yoko ate him up like a burger. Gene asks what big dude's name is, but Shawn just calls him his insurance policy and says he does the talking. Shawn then says his name is Diesel, Diesel fuel like truck.

The Smoking Gunns & Steiner Brothers vs. Money Inc. & The Headshrinkers (w/Afa)
The early portion of the match is pretty good with the Steiner’s working a fast pace match. But after that it was mostly Smoking Gunns vs. IRS, which fuckin’ sucked. Brain, Savage and JR pretty much talked about Yoko/Hulk for ¾ of this match tho :lmao the Smoking Gunns takes turns playing the face-in-peril and the match is slowed down. DiBiase has the Million Dollar Dream locked in on Billy, but he lets it go to gloat. Billy surprises him with a small package to win the match. *1/2 - *3/4

Backstage: Mean Gene is with Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji, Jack Tunney shows up and congratulates Yoko on his win and leaves, Fuji said anyone in their path will go down like Hulkamania did tonight, and Fuji says they'll have a big celebration in America and details will come soon.

WWF Intercontinental Championship: Crush vs. Shawn Michaels (w/Diesel)
Fuckin’ Crush, Shawn’s bumping 20 seconds into this was hilarious, just a simple shoulder tackle and Shawn rolls and falls to the floor. He does use his quickness to keep out of the hands of Crush but whenever he could, he would give him a cheap shot. Crush uses more power and that lasts a good amount of time, until Shawn hides behind Diesel allowing Shawn to jump him from behind sending him into the ring post, Diesel then does the same but while the ref is distracted Shawn knocks the back of Crush’s head 8 times in the ring post :lmao Crush is dead weight, and after a minute and half of dragging Crush back in Shawn coves him for two. Shawn’s offense is all targeting the head setting up for the superkick, and it’s alright Shawn is a solid hand at this point but he’s now showstoppa. The match drags on some with Michael's working in a boring front face lock that takes forever before Crush powers out of it and makes a full comeback which sucked. Suddenly, Doink the Clown and Doink the Clown II comes out to distract him. Michael's recovers and Superkicks Crush head first into the top turnbuckle for the win. Well this sucked. *

Backstage: Mean Gene interviews Bam Bam, Bam says he has the opportunity to be the first King Of The Ring, and he’s going to the ring to get it done.

King Of The Ring Finals: Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
JR points out that Bam Bam's had hour and 20 minutes to rest after being in the ring for 8 minutes, but Bret's fought a total of 36minutes total with only 40 minutes to rest, which on top of Bret having hurt fingers and a bad knee. Bam Bam dominates the early portion of the match, at one point Bam press slams Bret over his head and throws him to the floor :mark: Bam now begins to headbutt Bret’s back so on top of possible broken fingers and a hurt knee, Bret also has now back pains JESUS! Everything Bam Bam does hurts Bret a little more as the moves go by and Bret’s selling was fantastic, Bam applies a nice bear hug but breaks it just to do damage with a huge back drop that looked like it killed. Bret briefly fights back on the floor, but Bam Bam rams him into the post and slams him on the ramp. He gets back in to distract the ref and Luna comes out to hit Bret in the back with a chair, and she runs to the back. Bam brings Bret back in the ring and connects with the Flying Headbutt for the win. OH SHIT! But wait, Earl Hebner runs out and lets the referee know about the interference. The referee orders the match to continue. Poor Bret he’s got broken fingers, hurt knee a bad back and it exhausted but now he has to go another round with a PISSED! BAM BAM. Bam goes bright back to the lower back, at one point Bam whips Bret so hard into the turnbuckles that Bret walks/stumbles over to him with his head on Bam’s chest so Bam simple headbutt’s him in the face AWESOME! Bam goes back to the bear hug, but breaks it to go back to a backbreaker submission. But out of desperation Bret slips out and side suplex’s Bam, Bam is up first but he misses the back splash allowing Bret to fire back but again he gets caught in the back breaker but Bret counters into a sleeper wearing Bam down. But he pulls the hair to break the hold but Bret kicks Bam In the back and throws Bigelow out of the ring and slingshots himself over the top rope onto Bam Bam. Bret’s got his 2nd wind :mark: He starts hitting his trademark moves with a middle rope clothesline and bulldog. When Bigelow tries to get in another bear hug, Bret just bites at the head. Bret tries the Sharpshooter, but Bigelow's thick legs make it too difficult and Bam Bam easily kicks him off. Bret climbs up on the middle rope looking for another bulldog, but he gets another idea and jumps on Bigelow's shoulders in the electric chair position. Bret uses his weight to leverage himself into a victory roll for the win. AWESOME! lol @ Savage losing his shit jumping off commentary to give Bret a huge, you can tell he was super into Bret at this time. Great fuckin’ match Bret took a beating and used amazing psychology to tell a story. Without a doubt Bret’s best performance not just in this match but all 3 matches. ***1/2 - ***3/4

Post-Match: Bret Hart walks up to the stage for the coronation, and Mean Gene is waiting with a throne, cape, and scepter. He puts on the cape and holds the scepter, and Gene puts the crown on his head. Gene proclaims Bret Hart the official King of the Ring, but Jerry Lawler makes his way out, in his own crown and cape and with his own scepter. He says he's here to confront this pretender and tell the impostor that there's only one King in the WWF, and it's him. He says he might allow Bret to be Prince if he gets down on his hands and knees right now, bows, and kisses his feet. Bret says the only king that Lawler is the Burger King, and that chant begins. Lawler responds by blindsiding Bret with his scepter and he stomps on Bret's crown. He beats on Bret some more, and throws the throne down on Bret's back! He keeps hitting Bret with the scepter and chokes him with it. He rips up the robe, and gets back on the mic. He says he gave Bret a chance before, but now he's going to make him kiss the feet of the one true King. Bret gets up on all fours near the steps and Lawler kicks him right in the mouth and Bret falls on his back down the steps. Lawler continues to stomp on Bret's crown as the PPV closes.

I liked that Bret pretty much tried to snap Lawler in half with the Sharpshooter for reals, because Lawler hurt him that reckless beatdown.

Hart/Perfect is a technical masterpiece and I prefer this meeting to their SummerSlam match.

Tournament wrestling at its best. It just showed you what a talent Bret was at his peak that he produced three different kind of matches in one night, but all equally good.

Remember being stunned as a kid by that Lawler attack. Their feud was one of the best of 93 (not a great year) even if their matches weren't great.

Perfect/Bret was definitely higher quality, but there is no denying Bret against Razor and Bam Bam were still the 2nd and 3rd best matches on the card.He never won with his pet finisher and all matches were different to showcase Bret's versatility as opposed to the championship match where it was the same old song and dance.
