NXT World Champion: Samoa Joe
NXT World Tag Team Champions: The Revival
NXT Woman's Champion: Asuka
NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II
August 20th, 2016
Barclays Center: Brooklyn, New York
Pretty awesome opening video package with all the guys and girls on the card talking about a year ago, and where they were to now. Samoa Joe says he was here while everyone else was watching, and Bayley gets a little choked up.
No Way Jose vs. Austin Aries
Kinda hilarious that No Way leads a conga line out and the first guy in the line is wearing an Aries t-shirt. This is fine and all, Aries clearly gives a shit for the 14 thousand, instead of the 4 in Orlando that he sees every week. So he busts out some awesome bumping really making No Way look vicious, he manages to find an opening and drop Jose throat first onto the top rope. Aries works the head and neck, but doesn't work the throat
Jose has a solid comeback, he doesn't do anything groundbreaking or even something that stands out, he does have a couple of nice working punches. Jose survives the Last Chancery, and Jose comes back with a TKO for two. I've been skipping No Way matches so IDK if that's his new finisher. They're some nice nearfalls towards the end until Aries locks in the Last Chancery again and No way taps. **1/2
After the match; Aries continues to beat up Jose, BUT HIDEO COMES OUT AND DROPS ARIES WITH THE GO 2 SLEEEEEEP! BIG POP!
Ric Flair is sitting in the front row.
In the back, both champion and challenger is warming up.
Billie Kay vs. Ember Moon
Cool Ember debut, she's really smooth and good, but Billie isn't she's a step slower and doesn't come off natural at all like she's thinking and telegraphing the moves before it happens and can't keep up in the early exchanges, she settles in one it's her time to go on offense she applies a nice widows peak shoutout to Victoria, I should check out her leaks again. Anyway, Ember fights back and hits a flying twisting Stunner aka the Eclipse for the win. *3/4
Earlier Today; Bobby Roode arrived at the building, Andrea asks for come comments, Roode says NYC is his type of town, not Brooklyn tho, I mean Brooklyn is like the armpit of New York. It stinks, he calls himself a Manhattan, but he'll take NXT to that next level tonight, and he'll make it glorious.
Roode gets the first big none champion entrance, granted it's just a tall ass podium kind of like Shawn's from Mania 25.
Bobby Roode vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas
Almas has some weird attire, he has the distressed design like he's wearing jeans. Just weird. Brooklyn fans gonna be Brooklyn, they cheer Roode and Booo Cien and do the "THIS IS GLORIOUS" before the bell even starts, Almas is great in this super flash and clean on everything, and say what you want about Roode like how Glorious pretty much killed him off rip, and he's not really the best wrestler. He carries himself like a star and just like Aries can turn in on when the crowd is up. He works Almas's neck and back, the only real complaint I have about Almas is he's not much of a seller at all like he's really bad and barely does it. But he's from Mexico and they're not really known for selling. Almas has a fun comeback and he goes back to the lucha stuff that worked in the beginning, finishing stretch was great, Roode kicks out of a modified straightjacket suplex and gets the knees up off a standing moonsault, they exchange punches to pander for a bit and Almas gets the better, he connects with the double knee but Roode counters the hammerlock DDT with some nasty elbows and hits the Double A spinebuster, and connects with a pumphandle slam for the win. I don't remember him using that as a finisher, UGH! **3/4

Backstage: Triple H unveils The Cruiserweight Classic trophy done by the Orange City Choppers. Triple H plugs the live finale on September 14th LIVE on the Network.
Backstage: Gargano is warming up when Ciampa hands him a t-shirt, Ciampa says Gargano's always going on about how they did things their own way, so, DIY.
NXT World Tag Team Championships: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Revival
Dawson is so good at the little things, so during their entrances DIY are standing on and by the ropes for them lowkey daring them to enter and Dawson shoves them both out of the way so he can enter, it gives that match a little bit extra you know, like real bad blood. Awesome Dawson/Ciampa opening, Dawson has learned so much from getting his ass kicked by Gable on the mat so he uses some of Gable's tricks and keeps bailing when he feels Ciampa almost getting the advantage, basically trying to piss him off but it doesn't work. Gargano/Dawson is also really good but kept short and we get some nice Dash/Gargano stuff, with Gargano using his speed and to get the better and avoid the Revivals tricks. This feels a lot more natural like DIY/Revival instead of what would it be like if Arn/Tully faced the Stieners as it did with Alpha, don't get me wrong I love Alpha and refer to them as nephews but Ciampa and Gargano have that match experience. Revival bumps heavy for them, before suckering Ciampa in with the illegal tag. Awesome spot with Dash faking out Ciampa like he's going for a backdrop but instead he drops him throat first onto the top rope and he stumbles back into a Dawson backdrop giving the champs the advantage now. They target the neck and it's their best to date, they've never been good neck workers but my guess is it's usually due to the match length. But here they get 20 minutes. They excel more than any team in the world is the false hope and the creative ways to block a hot tag. It fuckin rules. Ciampa manages to avoid both charges by the Revival and Gargano gets the hot tag, now with JJ gone he has the best in NXT but tbf it's really on 3 teams in NXT and they're the only face team. The match breaks down, and Dawson does the ARN fake punch DDT spot
but only gets two. He goes for it again against Ciampa but he doesn't fall for it and locks in the armbar, but Dash breaks it up. Gargano takes Dash out and they leaves Dawson and Ciampa who have been the living shit out of one another all match, Ciampa lights him the fuck up with a slap a high knee but Dawson comes right back with a stiff right hand. But Gargano sneaks a superkick in. He takes Dash out again and they hit the running knee/superkick deal and covers for three but HIS FOOT WAS ON THE ROPES! Dawson then pulls Ciampa out and throws him into the post, that distracts Gargano and Dash chop blocks him from behind. THEY DO DEATHLOCK/STOMP COMBO THAT BROKE CASS' LEG! Dawson the locks on the reverse figure four and Gargano taps. WOW! Still not only still holds up, but is better than remembered and I held it to high standards. ****
After the match; Ciampa is disappointed but comes in, he picks Gargano up, he helps him leave the ring and they walk up the ramp...........................................NOPE, not yet.
Gives divas a chance 24 doc.
Becky and Sasha are in the crowd in one section, while Charlotte is in another.
NXT Woman's Championship: Bayley vs. Asuka
Awesome storytelling before we even get to the match, with Tom saying Bayley headband is made out of bits from her BFF's Sasha's ring gear from last years Brooklyn match. Asuka is now entering her prime in terms of allure, attitude, swagger, and character. Her cockyness is awesome, the match starts with Bayley having some stuff scouted but it all goes downhill when she goes for her Lucha armdrag off the top but Asuka blocks with a knee and Bayley takes it right o the head unprotected, she collapses like she got KO'ed cold. Asuka then spends the next few minutes toying with her, laughing and just straight up enjoying her self as she beats the shit out of Bayley, it rules. It's what Nakamura does but he sucks now. But she gets too cocky and that allows Bayley to go on an awesome stretch on offense, but it never feels enough in a kayfabe sense. It's like all the heart and soul and crowd support isn't enough against someone the level of Asuka. Theirs some great reversals, rollups, and submissions holds towards the end with both girls getting desperate. Asuka kicks better than Hideo which means she's the greatest Japanese wrestler on the roster, but miles. The kicks fire BAYLEY UP AND SHE TAKES PAGE OUT OF SASHA'S BOOK WITH KILLER FORARMS BUT A ASUKA BACKHAND STOPS TO ALL OF THAT. Bayley botches a powerbomb, but hits the dominator for two, good spot during the kickout Asuka kicks out hard and pops right up and applies the Asuka lock, BUT BAYLEY HAS IS SCOUTED AND FIGHTS OUT TO HIT A FLASH BAYLEY-TO-BELL FOR TWO. She goes for it again, but this time Asuka has is scouted and hits a fucking flying triangle choke hold and rolls it into an Asuka lock attempt. Bayley does the Bret escape now, but it doesn't work. She tries to get Asuka to strike herself out, but it doesn't work so she fires Asuka up with one hell of a slap. BUT ASUKA TAKES THE GLOVES OFF AND KILLS HER WITH A SPINNING HEEL KICK RIGHT TO THE TEMPLE AND THEN A BUZZSAW DEATH KICK for the win. Awesome stuff. ***1/4
After the match; Asuka holds Bayley up and they embrace, the champ leaves as Bayley gets a huge standing ovation as the realization sits in that this is her last match in NXT. She hugs the horsewoman at ringside.
Another huge loss for NXT this prob being top 2 or tied with Sami, right above Dusty. FUCKIT I think this might be number 1, as Bayley was the first homegrown NXT wrestler that got over, Sami came in with a buzz like every other NXT guy. She was built here we've seen all her matches, the road from happy gullible fan to the ace of the company. She overtook bum ass, Finn, when he wasn't getting the job done, and with Sami hurt, she took the crown and stepped up huge. Another reason I say it's the biggest loss is I don't think NXT ever gets another woman this over again, they get Shyna but she's a killer and I don't think Kari ever reaches that level. But IDK I'm still 2 years behind and haven't watched any NXT in 2018 live. All the men have an Indy background so they're known, she went from jobber to face. EDIT! Gargano does come pretty close, but in typical WWE fashion they fuck that up real quick. From here on out the woman's division takes a step back again, and never reclaims the top spot it did from 2015/Mid 2016.
BACKSTAGE MAIN EVENT WALK! A security gets too close to Joe so he shoves him to the wall and he gives Joe the nasty side eyes
Main Event Hype.
Mick and Noelle Foley are in the crowd.
Finn is here too.
NAKAMURA GETS THE EPIC AF VIOLIN ENTRANCE! STILL HOLDS UP.
NXT World Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe
This has a huge fight feel, with the crowd chanting Nakamura's music but it's mostly Joe with his antics that keeps that same energy. He does anything and everything to provoke Nakamura, but nothing works. They have a decent feeling out process with this the first time they've ever faced off like at all no tag match or multi-man match, which is rare in this Indy version of NXT. Sadly, that's the peak of the match as it gets really boring and basic for the next 17 minutes. I've seen Joe turn it up in these big matches, and he kinda does here at times, but I don't know what Nakamura's deal is. Where is NJPW Naka? Maybe my memory is trash and didn't remember his Japanese stuff. IDK it's like that player that got paid and now just mails it in. Or maybe they just have the worse chemistry in the history of wrestling, but this never goes to that next level and drags a ton with filler holds, and I call them filler cause Naka doesn't sell anything so what's the point of even teasing these. They should have just punched, kicked and slapped the shit out of one another for 12 minutes and call it a day. Naka knees his way back into it, and they go onto exchanging nasty stikes, they really lay that shit in hard and that's really what i wanted. In the end, Naka outlasts Joe in the striking and fractures his jaw with a sick straight knee to the face, and follows up with the Kinshasa for the win. **1/2
