TNA Unveils the New Grand Championship (Photo)

Impact President Billy Corgan unveiled the brand new TNA Grand Championship last night at TNA's television tapings. According to Corgan, a tournament will be held to crown the inaugural champion. The title will be defended in matches featuring rounds, wherein judges will decide the winner if the contest exceeds a set time limit.

TNA has also reported retired the King of the Mountain Championship, won by Bobby Lashley on last week's Impact.

The belt looks pretty, but it leaves me with questions... do they understand a title can only be "grand" if it's the top title and why is it sporting the Impact logo instead of TNA?

I'm pretty sure they rebranded themselves as "Impact Wrestling" a while ago. Could be wrong but I think only the fans refer to it as TNA

As far as the whole "grand" name; it's silly. But I don't think it's the silliest name for a Championship we've heard this summer

The brand change was very superficial and only enforced when they felt like. All the titles retained TNA in their names and on the belts themselves. TNA even made an entirely new TNA World Heavyweight Championship shortly before the announcement was made about the name change of the show. On top of this all of TNA's pay-per-view events keep the TNA branding. They basically just changed the name of the show to include wrestling. If they're finally going all in that's fine, but Billy Corgan did refer to it as the TNA Grand Championship before unveiling the belt design.

I actually like the name "Grand" a lot for a world title, but the problem is grand literally means the top prize. It can't be grand if it's under the World Championship.

Will need to see these matches first, hopefully it's not overcomplicated like most things Jeremy Borash has a hand in.

Belt itself looks like a remixed NXT title.

I dig the look, but from what I've heard on the new rules for it, it sounds MMA style. Still I'll give it a chance, but I rather of seen the title go bye bye.

It did go away. The Legends Championship is officially retired now. This will be a brand new one altogether.

Yeah I know, but I have fears this title will be a waste but I'm crossing my fingers it's the opposite. When I heard this news I was wtf, theirs more important things to do. How about get talent in the X-Division and Knockout Division please!
